JEFFERSON CITY, MO- The Miners took a break from GLVC play today to take on the Blue Tigers of Lincoln University. While Lincoln got away with the first game, S&T was able to bounce back and take the win in game two.
GAME ONE: MISSOURI S&T: 4, LINCOLN: 6
The Miners got out to an early lead in the first game; after
Holli Finnell (Nolensville, Tenn./Nolensville) drew a walk and advanced over to second off a sacrifice bunt in the top of the 2
nd,
Hannah Antzoulatos (Planfield, Ill./Joliet Catholic Academy) would triple into right-center field to being Finnell around for the 1-0 lead.
Marcy McCalla (Staunton, IL/Staunton) would pick up an RBI at the very next at-bat as she singled up the middle and brought Antzoulatos across home plate to give S&T a 2-0 lead.
Lincoln would answer right back in the bottom half of the inning with four runs scored on two hits to make it a 4-2 game.
The Blue Tigers added one more run in the bottom of the 4
th to extend their lead out to 5-2, but
Kate Baxter (New Bloomfield, MO/New Bloomfield) got the Miners right back into the game.
With McCalla on first base, Baxter sent a ball down the right field line that would leave the ballpark and put the Miners down 5-4. Unfortunately, Lincoln would get a run back in the bottom half of the 5
th with an RBI single from Alex Miller to eventually give them the 6-4 win.
Kate Baxter (New Bloomfield, MO/New Bloomfield) got the start in the pitcher's circle today going 4.1 innings with one strikeout recorded.
Charlye Rowland (Pearcy, Ark./Lake Hamilton) finished up the remaining 1.2 innings with two strikeouts.
GAME TWO: MISSOURI S&T: 5, LINCOLN: 2
S&T took game two of the series with a 5-2 final.
Bryn Wooldridge (Salisbury, Mo./Salisbury) recorded the Miners first two RBI of the game when she flied out to right field and send
Hannah Antzoulatos (Planfield, Ill./Joliet Catholic Academy) home in the top of the 1
st inning and then brought Maddy Passolano home around the bases in the 3
rd inning with a double to center field.
Lincoln would get those two runs back in the bottom half of the 3
rd inning after Jordan Hollon doubled to left field to bring Jordan Lawson and Leslie Callahan across home plate.
Keeley Morgan would give the Miners back their lead in the top of the 6
th inning when she reached on a fielder's choice and sent
Marcy McCalla (Staunton, IL/Staunton) home for the 3-2 lead.
Hannah Antzoulatos (Planfield, Ill./Joliet Catholic Academy) would secure the Miners the win in the top of the 7
th inning when she hit a triple into deep the outfield and would score on a Lincoln error to extend S&T's lead to 5-2. That would be enough to hold on through the last half inning and take the 5-2 win.
Charlye Rowland (Pearcy, Ark./Lake Hamilton) picked up the win in game two going 5.0 innings with six strikeouts while
Bryn Wooldridge (Salisbury, Mo./Salisbury) recorded the save after 2.0 innings of relief.
