Miners hang with sixth-ranked UIndy, but fall 1-0

ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's men's soccer team went toe-to-tie with the sixth-ranked team in NCAA Division II Saturday afternoon, but a goal in the 11th minute ended up being the decisive goal as Indianapolis handed the Miners a 1-0 Great Lakes Valley Conference setback at Allgood-Bailey Stadium.

The Greyhounds got a goal from Jeremy Fechtman 10:50 into the contest, as after a throw-in, the ball came back out to Fechtman and he hit a low shot through a crowd that hit off the inside of the goal post and went in.

UIndy (10-0-1) outshot the Miners (3-7-1) 12-8 in the game, but each team had only two shots on net apiece.  S&T goalkeeper Michael Sallee (Springfield, MO/Catholic) turned away the other shot on goal, while the Miners had shots on net from Thomas Jorgensen (Florence, Italy/Liceo Scientifico Santa Maria) and Jacob Bandy (Bettendorf, IA/Pleasant Valley), whose head ball attempt in the 83rd minute was knocked away by goalkeeper Dimitrios Karousos.

The Miners return to action Friday when they take on Lewis in Romeoville, Ill., to begin their final road trip of the season.
