Miners Fall to Screaming Eagles in Final Home Games of Season

ROLLA, MO- The Miners completed the home portion of their 2021 schedule against Southern Indiana. While S&T did all they could, the Screaming Eagles would go on to take the 3-0 and 5-1 wins.

USI would get one run in each of the 2nd, 5th, and 6th innings to secure their 3-0 win and held the Miners to just two hits in the opening game of the doubleheader. S&T picked up hits in the bottom of 5th inning when Marcy McCalla (Staunton, IL/Staunton) singled down the right field line and then again in the 7th inning when Bryn Wooldridge (Salisbury, Mo./Salisbury) hit a one-hopper to center field.

S&T's bats came to life in the second game of the day; while they recorded just one run, the Miners recorded seven hits.

The Screaming Eagles put runs up in the top of the 2nd and 5th innings to gain a 5-0 lead, but Rachel Smith (Monroe City, Mo./Monroe City R-1) would help to keep the Miners alive in the bottom of the 7th inning. After a single through the left side sent Hannah Antzoulatos (Planfield, Ill./Joliet Catholic Academy) home, Elizabeth Viox (Glen Carbon, Ill./Edwardsville) would hit a ball into right field to make it first and second with one out for Maddy Passolano (Mokena, Ill./Lockport Township). Passolano would send a ball down the shallow right field line to load the bases, but USI was able to convert two outs on the final S&T batter and take the 5-1 win.
