Miners Put on Hitting Clinic in Back-to-Back Wins Over Lincoln

ROLLA, MO- The Miners flexed their bats today, taking 10-1 and 11-10 wins over the Blue Tigers of Lincoln University.

In the opening game of the doubleheader, Lincoln got the early 1-0 lead off a single from Emily Williams up the middle and brought Jordan Lawson around.

S&T would put up a 7-spot in the bottom of the 5th inning that started with a single from Marcy McCalla (Staunton, IL/Staunton) that scored Baylee Jobson (Marceline, Mo./Marceline RV). The very next batter, Keely Morgan (Laguna Hills, CA/Laguna Hills), hit a short hopper into hole between shortstop and third base and sent Elizabeth Viox (Glen Carbon, Ill./Edwardsville) and Maddy Passolano (Mokena, Ill./Lockport Township) across the plate.

With the 3-1 lead, the Miners would get back-to-back homeruns from Bryn Wooldridge (Salisbury, Mo./Salisbury) and Hannah Antzoulatos (Planfield, Ill./Joliet Catholic Academy) to extend their lead out to 7-1.

The Miners would seal the deal in the bottom of the 6th inning with the team's third homerun of the game when Marcy McCalla (Staunton, IL/Staunton) sent a ball over the left field fence and bring in Elizabeth Viox (Glen Carbon, Ill./Edwardsville) and Ashley Davis (Erie, IL/Erie) to give S&T the 10-1 win.

Bryn Wooldridge (Salisbury, Mo./Salisbury) (3-7) got the start and the win in game one going 6.0 innings with two strikeouts and just six hits allowed.

It was a fight to gain control in the second game of the doubleheader; after Lincoln opened the game with three runs, Keely Morgan (Laguna Hills, CA/Laguna Hills) would cut the Miners deficit to 3-1 with a sacrifice fly out to center field to score Maddy Passolano (Mokena, Ill./Lockport Township).

The Blue Tigers added another run in the top of the 2nd inning, but S&T stayed within reaching distance of Lincoln.

After a wild pitch allowed Passolano to reach base on a strikeout, Taylor Caton (Ballwin, Mo/Parkway West) and Emily Davidson (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) would both score off the wild pitch and a Blue Tiger error to make it a 4-3 game.

Missouri S&T took their first lead of the second game in the bottom of the 4th inning when Maddy Passolano (Mokena, Ill./Lockport Township) hit S&T's fourth homerun of the day after a two-run shot into center field gave the Miners the 5-4 lead.

Lincoln would add two more runs in the top of the 5th inning to regain their lead, but Hannah Antzoulatos (Planfield, Ill./Joliet Catholic Academy) gave the Miners 7-6 lead in the bottom half of the inning with the team's fifth homerun of day and her second one.
Both teams would continue to score and fight for the lead through the 7th inning.

Looking at a 9-7 deficit, the Miners got back-to-back RBI hits from Antzoulatos and Taylor Caton (Ballwin, Mo/Parkway West) to tie the game at 9-9 and force extra innings. After both teams scored in the 8th inning, Rachel Smith (Monroe City, Mo./Monroe City R-1) gave the Miners the 11-10 win off a single into right field that scored Bryn Wooldridge (Salisbury, Mo./Salisbury).

Charlye Rowland (Pearcy, Ark./Lake Hamilton) got the start for game two going 5.2 innings with eight strikeouts while Wooldridge (4-7) picked up the win in the remaining 3.1 innings of work with three strikeouts recorded.
