ST. LOUIS, MO.- The Miner softball team (5-25, 4-14 GLVC) looked to get back into the win column today when they took on the Tritons of Missouri-St. Louis. However, S&T errors would turn into unanswered runs for UMSL and the Miners fell 5-0 and 8-0.
In the opening game of the doubleheader, threes runs in the bottom of the 3
rd inning and a 2-run homerun in the bottom of the 6
th inning would be enough for the Tritons to claim the game.
Marcy McCalla (Staunton, IL/Staunton) and
Kate Baxter (New Bloomfield, MO/New Bloomfield) would be the only two S&T batters to record a hit while
Bryn Wooldridge (Salisbury, Mo./Salisbury) also reached base off a walk in the top of the 2
nd inning.
Kate Baxter (New Bloomfield, MO/New Bloomfield) got the start in game one going 2.1 innings while allowing just two hits.
Charlye Rowland (Pearcy, Ark./Lake Hamilton) finished out the remaining 3.2 innings with one strikeout and allowing just three hits.
In game two, the Triton offense took over; they recorded at least one run in all but the 5
th inning.
The Miners offense picked up a bit in the second game;
Maddy Passolano (Mokena, Ill./Lockport Township) and
Hannah Antzoulatos (Planfield, Ill./Joliet Catholic Academy) picked up hits while
Kate Baxter (New Bloomfield, MO/New Bloomfield) went 2-3 at the plate.
Bryn Wooldridge (Salisbury, Mo./Salisbury) got the start for game 2 going 4.0 innings in the circle while
Charlye Rowland (Pearcy, Ark./Lake Hamilton) finished the remaining 1.1 innings with just two hits allowed.
