S&T blanked by Screaming Eagles

ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's men's soccer team was unable to find the back of the net Thursday night as it suffered a 2-0 loss to Southern Indiana in a Great Lakes Valley Conference contest at Allgood-Bailey Stadium.

The Miners (3-6-1), who were outshot 14-9 in the game, had two golden chances to score in the contest.  The first came in the ninth minute of play when Sigurd Semitsch took a shot from just inside the box that caromed off the crossbar.

Later in the contest – after the Screaming Eagles (5-4-1) had taken their two-goal lead – the Miners were awarded a penalty kick when Jason Jorgensen (Florence, Italy/Liceo Scientifico Santa Maria) was taken down in the box, but Paal Benum's (Trondheim, Norway/Byaasen Videregaadende) attempt to cut the lead in half was turned away by USI goalkeeper Justin Faas.

The Screaming Eagles took the lead in the 37th minute when Zach Barton got a lead pass to send him into a breakaway and after making a move to get by S&T goalkeeper Michael Sallee (Springfield, MO/Catholic), scored into an open net.  Graham Miller scored the second goal for USI in the 62nd minute of play.

Sallee made three saves for the Miners, while Semlitsch, Julien Denis (Olathe, KS/Olathe East) and Luan Barbosa (Curitiba, Brazil/Colegio SESI) all had two shots apiece.

Missouri S&T will return to action when it hosts sixth-ranked Indianapolis at the S&T Soccer Field at 2:30 p.m.
