Box Score KANSAS CITY, MO- The Miners faced a tough battle tonight, taking on a ranked Rockhurst team on their home field. While S&T did all they could to hang with the Hawks, the Miners suffered the 3-0 loss.
S&T kept the Hawks offense fairly silent to open the game, holding them to just two shots, one of them on-goal, in the opening 12 minutes. In the 13' of the game, RU's Mallory Mumby found the back of the net off assists from Hannah Byrne and Greta Seal to take a 1-0 lead.
Rockhurst would add another goal in the 37' from McKenna Leetch to take a 2-0 lead into halftime.
While S&T's offense to get past Rockhurst's goalie, they were able to break the Hawks defense a bit;
Ally Hasken (Freeport, IL/Freeport),
Sydney Gratz (Geneva, Ill./Geneva), and
Melanie Kulig (Belleville, Ill./Belleville Township) all got shots off in the first half, none of which were on goal.
It was all Rockhurst in the second half. While they added one more goal in the 85' of play, the Miners got off just one shot from
Kaitlyn Schwandtner (Tebbetts, Mo./Jefferson City) in the 62'. S&T would not be able to produce anymore offense and would suffer the 3-0 loss.
Viktoria Johnson (Granite City, Ill./Granite City) got the start in goal today playing the full 90 minutes and recording six saves.
