LEBANON, ILL.- Looking to add to their winning streak, the Miners (2-6-1, 2-6-1 GLVC) faced a tough challenge with the Bearcats of McKendree University (9-1-0, 9-1-0 GLVC). While S&T struck first, McKendree's offense proved to be too much and the Miners faced the 2-1 loss.
Sydney Gratz (Geneva, Ill./Geneva) recorded her second goal of the weekend today when she scored in the 18' of the game to give the Miners the early 1-0 lead.
S&T would hold that lead for nearly 20 minutes before Anna Stiffler found Morgan Hollenbeck in the box to tie the game at 1-1. Just six minutes later, Emma Knoebel would connect on a penalty kick to give McKendree the 2-1 lead.
The Miners offense came out swinging; they recorded seven shots in the first half with five of them being on-goal.
It was a different story in the second half of the match. McKendree's defense held the Miners to just four total shots and only two of them challenging Bearcats goalkeeper Mercedes King. Neither team would connect for a goal in the second half and S&T would face the 2-1 loss.
