LEBANON, Ill. – McKendree beat the clock on Missouri S&T's men's soccer team Sunday afternoon, getting a goal from Eddie Davis just before time expired to give the Bearcats a 2-1 win over the Miners in a Great Lakes Valley Conference contest.
The Bearcats had a throw-in deep in the Miners' defensive zone with 14 seconds to go and was thrown into the box and was cleared out by the Miners. However, Davis came in from the back line and hit a low shot from about 25 yards away through a crowd of defenders that went into the lower left corner of the net as the clock was reaching zero to win the game for the Bearcats.
The Bearcats got on the scoreboard first with just over a minute to play in the first half on a goal by Logan Whitehead, but the Miners evened things up on
Dario Rossell's (Madrid, Spain/IES Lazaro Cardenas) goal in the 68
th minute. The Miners got the ball around midfield and eventually sent it ahead to Rossell, who split two defenders to get to the loose ball and hit it past Bearcat goalkeeper Brett Niedzwiecki.
McKendree outshot S&T 12-7 in the game, with four of the shots being on net to the one S&T got that it scored on. Miner goalkeeper
Michael Sallee (Springfield, MO/Catholic) was credited with two saves.
The Miners return to play Thursday when they host Southern Indiana at 7:30 p.m.
