ROLLA, MO- After collecting their first win of the season last Sunday, the Miners welcomes the Panthers of Drury University to Rolla. While the Miners played dead even with the Panthers for the 90 minutes, Drury would connect for goals just five minutes apart in the second half and hand S&T the 2-0 loss.
DU came out hot to start the game, getting off three shots in the opening five minutes of play. S&T would get good looks from
Paige Jackson (St. Louis, MO/Incarnate Word Academy) and
Danielle Hopkins (Naperville, IL/Neuqua Valley) in the first 20 minutes of the half but were unable to put a ball on-goal.
The Panthers kept S&T goalkeeper,
Kristin Steins (Ballwin, Mo./Parkway South) on her toes in the first half; eight shots were sent Steins way with two of them being on-goal and saved.
Andersyn Foster (Belleville, IL/Althoff Catholic) nearly connected for a goal in the 33' of play when she sent a shot to the top left corner of the net, but Drury's Sarah Franks snatched it for the save. Both teams would look at scoreless halves and take the 0-0 tie into the second half.
Drury's offense came to life in the second half. Chloe Cash and Keeley Combs scored back-to-back goals in the 50' and 55' of play to take the 2-0 lead.
S&T's offense didn't stop trying to make a comeback;
Ally Hasken (Freeport, IL/Freeport),
Danielle Hopkins (Naperville, IL/Neuqua Valley),
Paige Jackson (St. Louis, MO/Incarnate Word Academy), and
Sydney Gratz (Geneva, Ill./Geneva) all fired shots off in the second half but were unsuccessful in finding the back of the net. Jackson recorded the Miners final shot of the game in the 86' of play, that was saved by Franks, the S&T suffered the 2-0 loss.
