KIRKSVILLE, MO- The Miners opened their delayed 2020 season today at Truman State. While S&T and TSU played dead-even for 105 minutes, the Bulldogs would get the golden goal in double overtime and take the 1-0 win.
Truman State came out hot, threatening the Miners goalkeeper,
Viktoria Johnson (Granite City, Ill./Granite City), early.
Johnson saw five shots on goal in the first 45 minutes, saving all of them, while the Miners got just three shots off in the half with one being on goal. Both the Miners and Bulldogs defenses held steady and took a 0-0 score into the second half.
TSU got off another 11 shots in the second half; but Johnson was a brick wall, saving the four shots Truman State put on goal. S&T, who struggled to break the Bulldogs defense, got just one shot off late in the half when
Beth Roberts (Lake St. Louis, MO/Liberty) sent a ball wide right. After 90 minutes of no score, S&T and TSU went to overtime.
It wouldn't be until the 105
th minute of play when a winner was finally decided. Truman State's Faith Branson sent a shot off that found the back of the net for the Golden Goal and the Bulldogs 1-0 win.
Along with
