ROLLA, MO- In their final home weekend of the season, the Miners will host the Greyhounds of Indianapolis this Thursday and Saturday.
S&T is coming off a nail-biting loss to the Bearcats of McKendree University this Saturday. After trailing by as much as 11 in the first half, S&T made a huge offensive comeback in the third and fourth quarters to get within two points of McKendree. But, late free-throws from the Bearcats would give them the 86-81 win.
In the game,
Alex Kerr (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph's Academy) led the way for the Miners with 20 points and 13 rebounds while
Kristen Keys (St. Louis, MO/Westminster Christian Academy) added in 19 points. As a team, S&T went a perfect 20-20 from the free-throw line while forcing the Bearcats into 14 turnovers that led to 18 unanswered points.
For the season,
Laura Rodriguez (Gran Canaria, Spain/Baloncesto Torrelodones) and
Alex Kerr (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph's Academy) have led the Miners, offensively, with 15.9 and 14.8 points/game, respectively, while Kerr has been the leading force for S&T on the boards with 182 total rebounds.
Indianapolis:
The Greyhounds (10-8, 10-8 GLVC) are currently on a five-game winning streak after grabbing back-to-back wins over Rockhurst and Southwest Baptist last week.
In the team's most recent win over SBU, four Greyhounds scored in double-digits, including a game-high 19 from Taylor Drury. Mickey Sasson added in 18 points while Mya Scheidt went 6-11 from the field for 16 points. Lauren With came off the bench for UIndy to chip in 11 points.
The Greyhounds went on an offensive hot streak between the second and third quarters; they shot 54.5% from the field, which included a run of hitting 12-13 shots. Indianapolis was able to hold the lead for 83% Â of the game and ended up with the 77-66 win over the Bearcats.
For the season, Taylor Drury leads the team with 16.1 points/game while Mickey Sasson and Sadie Hill are adding in 11.4 and 10.9 points/game. Sasson, Drury, and Lauren With are controlling the boards for the Greyhounds, bringing down a combined 17.5 rebounds/game.
In year's past, the Miners have struggled against the Greyhounds, winning just four of the last 15 match-ups. Last season when the two teams met, UIndy scored 55 points in the second half, 35 of those coming in the third quarter, to take the 90-75 win.
Laura Thomas led all players with 37 points on 13-18 shooting while Mickey Sasson dished out nine assists.
Maddie Raley (Haubstadt, Ind./Gibson Southern),
Jordan Kabetske (Republic, Mo./Republic),
Marta Durk (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon Township), and
Alex Kerr (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph's Academy) all scored in double figures for the Miners while
Mykala Baylor (South Bend, Ind./Clay) pulled down 10 rebounds and blocked three shots.
