12/16/2021 3:00:00 PM

ROLLA, Mo. -- Missouri S&T will seek to close out the 2021 portion of its schedule with a three-game winning streak on Monday afternoon at Gibson Arena, but will have to do so against a talented Culver-Stockton team that pays a visit to Rolla for a 3 p.m. contest.

Fans attending Monday's doubleheader can receive one free admission ticket for every two canned food items they donate at the gate that afternoon (for four tickets, a group of fans would need to donate eight items) that will be donated to local food pantries.  In addition, the Sports Inc., Rolla basketball teams will play during the halftime intermissions of both games of the men's and women's doubleheader.

The Miners have won their last two contests to improve to 4-5 on the year and will look for its first run of three consecutive wins since they won six straight to open the 2016-17 campaign.  S&T picked up its most recent win on Dec. 11 with a 94-57 win over Westminster behind a big performance by Julien Smith (Fort Worth, TX/Northwest), as he recorded 20 points, six rebounds, six assists and three steals.

Smith continues to lead the Miners in scoring with an average of 19.6 points per game -- the third-best mark in the Great Lakes Valley Conference -- and is also among the league leaders in three-point shooting as he is tied for second with 3.4 made per game and 12th in three-point percentage at 44.9 percent.

He is among three Miners averaging in double figures, as Kaden Froebe (Lincoln, IL/Lincoln) is scoring 11.3 points per game and Alex Strating (Wassenaar, Netherlands/American School of the Hague) is at 10.6 per contest.  Froebe also leads the Miners with 26 assists, while Strating is second in the GLVC in field goal percentage at 64.3 percent.

ABOUT CULVER-STOCKTON: The Wildcats, who are coached by former Rockhurst All-America performer Aaron Hill, opened the season with 10 consecutive wins, but has lost its last three games before its scheduled game Wednesday at Grand View was postponed due to weather issues in Iowa.  Culver-Stockton will be playing Monday's game as an exhibition contest.

The Wildcats are paced by Alonzo Ortiz-Taylor, who is averaging 18.7 points per game and Jalen Blaize, who is scoring 16.3 per contest.  Blaize has made a team-high 39 three-point baskets and is hitting them at a clip of 42.9 percent, while Ortiz-Taylor has connected 21 times from beond the arc; he also has 16 blocked shots at the other end while hauling in a team-best 7.2 rebounds per game.

Culver-Stockton has been outstanding at the free throw line this season as it has made 79.6 percent of its shots from the charity stripe.

The Miners are facing Culver-Stockton for the first time since they won a 97-88 decision on Nov. 22, 2014.  S&T holds a 12-3 lead in the all-time series against the Wildcats.
