11/10/2021 12:00:00 PM

ROLLA, Mo. – After doubling up third-seeded Truman State Sunday, the Missouri S&T women's soccer team continues its run in the 2021 Great Lakes Valley Conference Women's Soccer Championship Friday making the trip to Springfield for a semifinal match against second-seeded Drury.

The Miners (9-5-3) scored twice, once in each half against the Bulldogs in their first postseason action since 2014, getting goals from Ally Hasken (Freeport, IL/Freeport) and First Team All-GLVC selection Sydney Gratz (Geneva, IL/Geneva) to secure a 2-0 win.

Gratz's second half score was her seventh of the season which leads the Miners and her assist in the first half was her fifth of the season, also tops on the team. The freshman duo of Lily Chung (Cottleville, MO/Francis Howell Central) and Paige VanDaele (Cottleville, MO/Francis Howell Central) have three goals each along with Third Team All-GLVC honoree Danielle Hopkins (Naperville, IL/Neuqua Valley), while Hasken and Melanie Kulig (Belleville, IL/Belleville West) each have two goals this season. Three other Miners have scored a goal during season. Beth Roberts (Lake St. Louis, MO/Liberty) trails only Gratz in assists with three to her credit this season, while Chung picked up her second assist of the campaign in the second half against Truman. The remaining four assists for the Miners in 2021 belong to four different players.

In goal, S&T's other All-GLVC first teamer Kristin Steins (Ballwin, MO/Parkway South) posted her 10th shutout of the season, making five saves on 17 Bulldog shots Sunday. For the year, she has made 70 saves against 203 shots in 1435:30 in goal, allowing 13 goals and posted a GAA of 0.85. Sunday's shutout of Truman State set a new single-season program record for the Miners with 12 shutouts, breaking the previous record of 11 set back in the 1997 season.

Drury (13-4-1) was the only higher seed to win and advance over the weekend, picking up a 2-0 win over seventh-seeded Lewis at home on goals from Tara Simon and First Team All-GLVC selection Elsa Gonzalez. Gonzalez is the leading scorer for the Panthers this season with 10 goals and her four assists rank second on the team. Simon's goal was her fourth of the season, good for second on the club. All-GLVC Third Teamer Chloe Cash (3), Second Teamer Andrea Camargo (2) and Kennedy Thompson (2) are the other players for DU with multiple goals, while eight others have found the net once this season. Cash's five assists lead the team along with Second Team All-GLVC selection Keely Combs. Camargo and Emily Heinz have two assists each while five other players make up the remaining balance for DU.

Second Team All-GLVC goalkeeper Kaitlin Knetzke posted her 11th shutout of the season against the Flyers and made a pair of saves against seven shots faced. For the year, she has 35 saves against 117 shots in 1536:32 in goal, allowing just six goals for a 0.35 GAA this season.
