SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Missouri S&T played Drury to a scoreless draw Sunday afternoon in Great Lakes Valley Conference play as it rebounded from its first conference loss of the year by picking up a point in the matchup against its rival.
A tough, physical game was played on virtually even terms throughout the afternoon, with both teams ended up with 13 shots and three apiece on goal. The Miners (5-2-1, 4-1-1 GLVC) had some good opportunities, starting with
Sigurd Semlitsch's (Oslo, Norway/Stabekk Videregaaende Skole) shot on goal in the 20
th minute.
Jason Jorgensen (Florence, Italy/Liceo Scientifico Santa Maria) had a one-timer on goal in the 48
th minute that was turned away by Drury goalkeeper Yannick Lamers and the third shot on goal came from
Grant Polman (Wentzville, MO/Holt) in the 55
th minute that Lamers came out of the net to stop.
The Miner defense came up with some big stops in the second half and in overtime to preserve the shutout.
In the 72
nd minute, the Miner defense blocked a shot in front of the net by Joshua Lewis-Evans and then blocked another one moments later by Jeremy Coen. S&T got another blocked shot in the 94
th minutes and goalkeeper
Davis Joseph (Andover, KS/Andover Central) made a big save on a shot by Jamie O'Brien in the 98
th minute to keep Drury (4-4-1, 4-1-1 GLVC) off the scoreboard.
Joseph finished with three saves to pick up his third shutout of the season.
The Miners will remain on the road next weekend for a pair of contests, beginning with Friday's 7:30 p.m. tilt against Lindenwood in St. Charles, Mo.
