ROLLA, Mo. – For the final time in the 2021 regular season, the Missouri S&T women's soccer team will take to the road for Great Lakes Valley Conference action with a trip east through the Hoosier State, stopping off first in Indianapolis for a match against UIndy Friday before wrapping up the weekend in Evansville against Southern Indiana.
The Miners (6-4-2, 5-3-2) are coming off a pair 1-0 wins over the weekend against McKendree and Missouri-St. Louis. Friday night against the Tritons,
Damita Mendoza (San Antonio, TX/Smithson Valley) scored the Miners' lone goal in the game and Sunday saw
Danielle Hopkins (Naperville, IL/Neuqua Valley) score the game-winner against the Tritons.
Sydney Gratz (Geneva, IL/Geneva) continues to lead S&T in goals and assists with six and four respectively, the latter ranking in the top five in the GLVC. Freshmen
Lily Chung (Cottleville, MO/Francis Howell Central) and
Paige VanDaele (Cottleville, MO/Francis Howell Central) have three goals apiece while Hopkins has two to her credit this season. Mendoza became the ninth different Miner to score this season, joining
Paige Jackson (St. Louis, MO/Incarnate Word Academy),
Melanie Kulig (Belleville, IL/Belleville West),
Lauren Bulcroft (Claremore, OK/Verdigris) and Ally Haskin with one goal each this season.
Beth Roberts (Lake St. Louis, MO/Liberty) is second on the team with two assists while Chung, Kulig,
Allison Cole (Mansfield, TX/Mansfield),
Andersyn Foster (Belleville, IL/Althoff Catholic) and
Lexi Frederick (Warrenton, MO/Warrenton) all have an assist.
Coming off two more shutouts over the weekend to bring her season total to six, the second-most in the GLVC,
Kristin Steins (Ballwin, MO/Parkway South) now has 46 saves against 133 shots this season and lowered her GAA to 0.92. Backup
Viktoria Johnson (Granite City, IL/Granite City) has six saves against 15 shots and the duo have combined for eight shutouts this season.
UIndy (8-2-1, 6-2-1) is looking to get back in the win column after dropping a 1-0 decision to Rockhurst on the road Sunday. The Greyhounds posted a 3-0 win over SBU Friday night in Bolivar for their eighth win of the season. Kiki Sauceda leads the Greyhounds and the GLVC in scoring this year, having found the net 13 times while assisting on two more goals. Maria Herrero is the only other Greyhound with multiple goals with three. Five other players have scored this season for UIndy. Dana Youssef leads the team with four assists and is followed closely by Elena Espinosa with three. Uma Yadev has two assists while five others have an assist to their name this season.
In goal, Sophia Saucerman has started eight times and made 22 saves against 66 shots in 767:19 in goal. She has four shutouts and a 0.59 GAA this season. Jenna Taghikhani has seen time in three matches and has nine saves against 25 shots to go with a shutout and a 1.00 GAA.
Southern Indiana (7-4-2, 5-4-1) enters the weekend on a five-match winning streak and plays host to Maryville Friday before welcoming the Miners Sunday. Last weekend, USI knocked off Drury 2-1 and SBU 1-0 on the road. Jill DiTusa leads the Screaming Eagles with five goals and has an assist to her credit. Avery Schone is second on the squad with four goals while Morgan Beyer and Katlyn Andres each have two goals. Four other players have scored this season for USI. Beyer, Madison Crawford and Keely Thompson all have three assists this season to lead the team while Schone and Andres have two apiece. Four other Screaming Eagles have assisted on goals this season.
Maya Etienne is the primary netminder for USI, starting nine times this season and making 23 saves against 60 shots in 804:47 in goal. She has five shutouts and a 0.67 GAA this season. Zoe Lintner is second on the team with eight saves and a 1.24 GAA with a shutout in three starts, while Emma Sabath has three saves and not allowed a goal in limited action this season.
Last season, S&T dropped a 3-2 decision to the Greyhounds and a 5-1 contest to the Screaming Eagles in Rolla.
