Head ball goal sends S&T to overtime loss to Tritons

ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's men's soccer team suffered a tough one-goal loss in double overtime for the second straight game Sunday afternoon, as Missouri-St. Louis got a goal with just under five minutes remaining to hand the Miners a 2-1 Great Lakes Valley Conference setback at Allgood-Bailey Stadium.

Nick Schreiber headed in Leo Sowa's corner kick in the 106th minute to give the Tritons (6-6-1, 5-5-1 GLVC) the victory and extended the Miners' winless streak to six games – the last three of which have been one-goal losses.

UMSL took the early lead on an unassisted goal by Arman Kovac in the 13th minute of play, before the Miners tied the game just over five minutes later.  Given four corner kick opportunities in succession, the Miners converted the fourth one when Nicholas Sikora (Highland, IL/Highland) got his foot on a ball that was loose in front and put it past UMSL goalkeeper Austin Reis.

S&T (5-6-1, 4-5-1 GLVC) outshot the Tritons 7-3 in the first half, but UMSL had an 8-5 edge in the second half.  The Miners finished the game with a 14-13 advantage in that department and had their best scoring chance after the goal in the 82nd minute when Sigurd Semlitsch (Oslo, Norway/Stabekk Videregaaende Skole) got a shot on goal that Reis stopped.

Michael Sallee (Springfield, MO/Catholic) started the game in goal for S&T and made two saves, while Davis Joseph (Andover, KS/Andover Central) also had two saves after entering the game late in the first half.

Missouri S&T returns to action Thursday with a road contest against second-ranked Indianapolis at 6:30 p.m.
