GLVC Academic Excellence Awards list includes 26 from Missouri S&T

ROLLA, Mo. –Missouri S&T matched its highest number of number of recipients of the Council of Presidents Academic Excellence Award this year, as 26 student-athletes were named today by the Great Lakes Valley Conference as award recipients for the 2019-20 school year.

The Council of Presidents Academic Excellence awards – given this year to 420 student-athletes from the GLVC's 14 institutions -- are presented to student-athletes who have completed their athletic eligibility in their sports and played at least two seasons in the conference, all while maintaining a 3.5 or better cumulative grade point average at the conclusion of the 2020 spring semester. 

The 420-member list was headed by 16 individuals that completed their collegiate careers with a 4.0 grade point average.  That list includes Missouri S&T's Avery English, a four-year pitcher in the softball program who is majoring in chemical engineering.
 
S&T's other 25 selections included five members of the men's track & field program that helped S&T win the GLVC indoor championship this season.  The five track team members were Nick Anselmo, Wil Crutcher, AJ Knowles, Daniel Miller and Jimmie Washington; Crutcher and Knowles also competed in cross country for the Miners.

Five softball players were also selected, as Jacey Allen, Abby Klein, Hannah Smith and Olivia Young joined English on the squad.

The team also included four members of the Miner baseball team – Blaine Dunbar, Matthew Lamb, AJ Marsh and Joe Wolf -- and four men's soccer players in Kyle Carberry, Trey Haman, Austin Parks and Matt Scharf.  Colten Becker, Alejandro Chavez and Tim Samuelsen represent the swimming team on the squad, as did Kayla Foster, Jess Haller, Kate Sikora from the women's soccer team.

In addition, the football team was represented by Deshawn Jones – the recipient of the GLVC's Paragon Award for 2019-20 – and the volleyball team had one selection in Corinne Stulce.

Missouri S&T also had 26 recipients of the GLVC Council of Presidents Academic Excellence Award in each of the last two years.
