Miners Drop Doubleheader to Lincoln

JEFFERSON CITY, MO- The Miners got back to action today, traveling north to take on the Blue Tigers of Lincoln University. After dropping the first game 4-3 in nine innings, S&T struggled to make a comeback in the second game and suffered the 5-3 loss.

GAME ONE: MISSOURI S&T: 3, LINCOLN: 4 (9 INNINGS)
S&T held a 1-0 lead over the Blue Tigers for most of the game after Marcy McCalla's (Staunton, IL/Staunton) RBI double in the top of the 3rd inning that drove in Emily Davidson (St. Louis, MO/Oakville). Lincoln would tie the game up in the bottom of the 7th when Jordan Hollon doubled to centerfield that sent Alex Miller across home plate and force extra innings.

Ashley Davis (Erie, IL/Erie) came through for the Miners in the top of the 8th inning when she sent a ball into deep centerfield and brought Abby Klein (Kansas City, MO/Staley) around the bases to give S&T the 2-1 lead.

The Blue Tigers answered the Miners in the bottom half of the inning when Ashton Stalling slid into home safely off a wild pitch from Charlye Rowland (Pearcy, Ark./Lake Hamilton). The 2-2 score would send the game into the 9th inning.

Once again, S&T added a run to the board when Jacey Allen (Roanoke, TX/Byron Nelson) singled up the middle that brought Rowland around to give the Miners the 3-2 lead.

The Blue Tigers secured the game one win in the bottom of the 9th inning when Jordan Lawson picked up a double to centerfield that brought Kendra Holt and Emily Williams home to give Lincoln the 4-3 win.

S&T recorded six hits in game one and was led by Marcy McCalla (Staunton, IL/Staunton) who picked up two hits.

Avery English (Carterville, IL/Carterville) got the start for game one going 6.0 innings with five strikeouts and just two hits allowed. Charlye Rowland (Pearcy, Ark./Lake Hamilton) (0-5) finished the 2.1 innings and gave up just three hits.

GAME TWO: MISSOURI S&T: 3, LINCOLN: 5
Much like the first game, the Miners found themselves with an early 1-0 lead.

In the top of the 2nd inning, Hannah Antzoulatos (Planfield, Ill./Joliet Catholic Academy) hit a sac-fly into right field that would allow Marcy McCalla (Staunton, IL/Staunton) to tag up and score, giving the Miners the 1-0 lead.

Lincoln had a big answer for S&T in the bottom of the 4th inning with three consecutive hits from Mykenzie Livesay, Emily Williams, and Alex Miller to total five runs.

Looking at a 5-1 deficit, S&T worked to climb their way back into the game.

Ashley Davis (Erie, IL/Erie) helped them do that in the top of the 5th inning when she sent a ball into left field that would score Abby Klein (Kansas City, MO/Staley) and make it a 5-2 game. In the very next inning, Jacey Allen (Roanoke, TX/Byron Nelson) hit a solo shot over the left field fence to cut the Blue Tiger's lead to 5-3.

It would not be enough to get a comeback started as Lincoln held the Miners in the top of the 7th inning and handed them the 5-3 loss.

Once again, the Miners recorded six hits in the game with Marcy McCalla (Staunton, IL/Staunton) leading the way with two hits.

Kate Baxter (New Bloomfield, MO/New Bloomfield) (1-5) got the start in game two going the full 6.0 innings with two strikeouts.
