Miners Fall Short Against Bulldogs in Final Game of Season

ROLLA, MO- The Miners completed their 2019-2020 season today against the Bulldogs of Truman State University. While S&T fought to take down TSU, the Bulldogs came out on top with the 65-52 win.

Truman opened up play on a 10-2 run after Hannah Belanger drained a three-point from the win just three minutes into the first quarter.

The Miners shot their way back into the game, getting three consecutive baskets from Mykala Baylor (South Bend, Ind./Clay) and Maddie Raley (Haubstadt, Ind./Gibson Southern) to get within one of the Bulldogs. Both teams would trade baskets throughout the remainder of the quarter with Truman taking a five point lead heading into the second quarter.

It was all TSU in the second quarter, holding the Miners to just five points in the second quarter and extending their lead to 42-22 by the end of the first half.

Just like how the Bulldogs held the Miners in the second quarter, S&T came out swinging in the third. The Miners outscored Truman 17-3 and cut their deficit to six after Mykala Baylor (South Bend, Ind./Clay) hit a jumper from the baseline with 49 seconds left in the quarter.

Truman had a chance to add to their lead, but the defensive efforts of the Miners held them.

Alex Wiese had a clear shot for a lay-up with 33 seconds left in the third when Mykala Baylor (South Bend, Ind./Clay) blocked her shot and got the rebound to make it a 45-39 game heading into the final stanza.

Every move the Miners had in the fourth, the Bulldogs had an answer to. TSU would push past S&T ane extend their lead back out to as much as 16 with less than two minutes left in the game.

Late free-throws from Jordan Kabetske (Republic, Mo./Republic) and Mykala Baylor (South Bend, Ind./Clay) would cut S&T's deficit to 13, but it would be too late for the Miners to make a comeback. S&T concluded the season with the 65-52 loss.

Mykala Baylor (South Bend, Ind./Clay) and Maddie Raley (Haubstadt, Ind./Gibson Southern) led the charge for the Miners today, scoring 12 and 10 points, respectively, while also leading the team with nine and seven rebounds. S&T's other senior, Jordan Kabetske (Republic, Mo./Republic), chipped in eight points while grabbing five rebounds and dishing out two assists.
