ROLLA, MO- The Miners broke their 10 game losing streak tonight with their 84-77 win over the Hawks of Quincy University.
S&T opened the game hot, getting back-to-back three-pointers from
Marta Durk (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon Township) and
Jordan Kabetske (Republic, Mo./Republic) to take the 10-5 lead. Kabetske would add in two more threes towards the end of the quarter to extend the Miners lead out to 18-9.
Quincy's Alexa Low would cut the Hawks deficit to six after a lay-up at the buzzer.
The Miners offense would continue to freeze Quincy in the second quarter, extending S&T's lead out to as much as 15 behind a jumper from
Ashley Harvey (Raytown, Mo./Raytown). The Hawks offense would finally get their groove late in the half, cutting their deficit, and eventually take the lead with 40 seconds left.
QU's Laney Lantz found an opening in the lane and gave the Hawks their first lead of the night at 41-39 heading into the half.
S&T opened the third quarter on a scoring frenzy; after fighting to regain their lead, the Miners would put the Hawks down 14 by the end of quarter after
Mykala Baylor (South Bend, Ind./Clay) drained two free-throws and make it a 64-50 game. The 25-9 scoring run from the Miners would be enough to give them enough of a lead to stay ahead of the Hawks for the remainder of the game.
The Hawks gave it all they had in the fourth quarter, cutting their deficit to as little as four. Eight made free-throws by the Miners at the end of the game would secure the 84-77 win.
Mykala Baylor (South Bend, Ind./Clay) led the way for the Miners with a game-high 22 points and 15 rebounds while
Jordan Kabetske (Republic, Mo./Republic),
Maddie Raley (Haubstadt, Ind./Gibson Southern), and
Ashley Harvey (Raytown, Mo./Raytown) all added in double-digits in scoring.
As a team, Missouri S&T (8-18, 4-15 GLVC) finished the game shooting 41% from the field and 50% from three-point range. They forced the Hawks into 13 turnovers while S&T dished out 17 assists.
