Scott reaches 1,000-point mark, but Miners fall to UIndy

ROLLA, Mo. – Facing the top-ranked team in both the NCAA Division II Midwest region and in the Great Lakes Valley Conference's point ratings index, Missouri S&T struggled to get any momentum going in its direction Saturday afternoon in a 92-76 loss to 19th-ranked Indianapolis at Gibson Arena.

The Greyhounds (21-5, 13-5 GLVC) led from start to finish, jumping out to an 8-0 lead in the first 100 seconds of play on two Cory Miller three-pointers and a dunk by Jacob Polakovich.  After the Miners (5-19, 3-15 GLVC) scored the next four points to cut the lead in half, UIndy scored eight of the game's next 10 points to gain a double figure advantage with only 4:38 played in the contest.

UIndy kept that lead in double figures for most of the first half despite shooting just 36.4 percent from the field in the first 20 minutes, but it held the Miners to just 27.8 percent shooting during that span.  S&T's first half was highlighted by Dulan Scott's (Chicago, IL/Farragut Academy) 14 points, which included his 1,000th career point that came on a jumper with 3:15 remaining in the half.

Scott became the 25th player in Miner history to reach the 1,000-point plateau and first to do so since Zach Ellis made it there four seasons ago.

The Miners trailed by 13 at the intermission and couldn't get any closer than 12 in the second half as UIndy shot 51.5 percent after the break and hit eight three-pointers – five of them coming from Trevor Lakes, who led all scorers in the game with 23 points.

Scott led the Miners with 18 points and Mitch Fairless (St. Charles, MO/Duchesne) added 17 with 15 of them coming in the second half.  S&T had a season-low three turnovers in the contest, but made only five-of-31 from three-point range on the afternoon.

The Miners conclude their schedule with a pair of home games next week, beginning with Thursday's 7:30 p.m. contest against Quincy at Gibson Arena.
