ROLLA, MO- The Missouri S&T women's basketball team kicks off their 2020-21 season under the new direction of head coach
Kira Carter.
The Miners are coming off an 8-19 record in the 19-20 season that included season sweeps over Maryville and Quincy.
While the Miners did lose key players in
Mykala Baylor (South Bend, Ind./Clay),
Maddie Raley (Haubstadt, Ind./Gibson Southern), and
Jordan Kabetske (Republic, Mo./Republic), S&T returns the rest of the team while adding three new faces to the mix.
Senior
Marta Durk (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon Township), who was the only player to play and start in all 27 games last year, is joined by
Alex Kerr (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph's Academy) and
Laura Rodriguez (Gran Canaria, Spain/Baloncesto Torrelodones), who both averaged over 10 points/game and were ranked in the GLVC in blocked shots and three-point field-goal percentage, respectively.
Coach Carter adds in
Shanice Uwase (Portland, Ore./Westview) who comes to Missouri S&T from Labette Community College,
Jada Lindesmith (St. Peters, MO/Lutheran) from Lutheran St. Charles who helped her team to a Missouri State Sectional Title, and
Eryn Puett (Columbia, MO/Rock Bridge) who led the Bruins of Rock Bridge High School to the MSHSSA Semi-Finals last year.
The Miners, who had great success over the Saints last year, will open the season at Maryville on Sunday afternoon. The last time the two teams met, the dynamic post duo of Baylor and Kerr could not be stopped. While Baylor led the team with 17 points and 17 rebound, Kerr added in 14 points and picked up eight boards of her own. Durk, Kabetske, and
Tristen McFeders (Kansas City, Mo./Bishop Miege) all chipped in double-digit scoring while the team shot a hit 49% from the field and drained seven three-point field-goals to take the 82-74 win.
Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. in Moloney Arena. Live game coverage links can be found at the top of the page.
