Women's Soccer Drops Match at Christian Brothers

MEMPHIS, TN- S&T's women's soccer team faced a tough match-up today as they took on the Buccaneers of Christian Brothers University. Despite their early goal, the Miners were unable to hold off CBU and fell 2-1.

The Bucs Hannah Ward scored the first goal of the game on an unassisted shot just five minutes into the match.

Their lead would not hold long as Kayla Foster (Sand Springs, Okla./Charles Page) connected with Jess Haller (Eureka, Mo./Eureka) in the 10' to tie the game up at 1-1.

S&T would get one other chance at taking the lead mid-way through the half when Paige Jackson (St. Louis, MO/Incarnate Word Academy) fired a shot at Christian Brother's goalkeeper, Riley Chafin, before the end of the opening 45 minutes. Miners starting keeper, Kristin Steins (Ballwin, Mo./Parkway South), fended off two shots in the first half after the opening goal.

CBU got the game-winning goal less than two minutes into the second half after Hannah Ward intercepted a pass from S&T and snuck it past Steins for the eventual 2-1 win. The Miners would only record one shot on-goal that was saved by the Buccaneers.

Courtney Pyrtle (Foristell, Mo./Timberland) led the way for the Miners with four shots, two on-goal, while Haller, Foster, and Jackson all recorded one shot a piece.

Kristin Steins (Ballwin, Mo./Parkway South) played the entire 90 minute in goal and recorded four saves.

The Miners will be back in action next Sunday when conference play begins. S&T will begin the GLVC portion of their schedule at Maryville University at 12 p.m.
