ROLLA, MO- The Miners got back on track today, taking down the Flyers of Lewis University with a 2-1 final.
Beth Roberts (Lake St. Louis, MO/Liberty) picked up her first goal of the season, and the first goal of the match, on a ricochet from Lewis' starting goalkeeper, Brianna Riscossa. Roberts' shot in the 38' gave the Miners a 1-0 lead heading into the second half.
Lewis answered S&T's first half goal with one of their own; Allie Mikos found Courtney Sengstock deep in the box that left her one-on-one with Miners goalkeeper,
Kristin Steins (Ballwin, Mo./Parkway South).
S&T would get the final word when Roberts sent a ball into the box and
Peyton Carter (Overland Park, KS/Blue Valley West) fired a shot at Lucy Clark. Carter's second goal of the season would be the game-winning goal the Miners needed to claim the 2-1 win.
The Miners offense was on-point today, recording six shots with four of those being on-goal.
Steins, who played the entire 90 minutes, recorded a season best six saves.
Missouri S&T (2-4-1; 2-3 GLVC) will be back in action in Rolla next weekend when they host William Jewell on Friday night and Rockhurst on Sunday afternoon.
