Richardson's Famous Flip Throw-In Earns Miners a Win

ROLLA, MO- Off of a much needed win over Lewis University, the Miners pulled out their second straight GLVC win tonight with a 1-0 victory over the Cardinals of William Jewell.

The lone goal of the game came in the 49' when Chayse Richardson (Collinsville, Ill./Collinsville), who is famous for her flip throw-ins, threw a ball right into the net from 15 yards out that just caught the glove of WJC's goalkeeper, Kaylie Kappelmann.

The Miners tested the Cardinals defense in the first half, getting three consecutive shots off at WJC's goal in the first 20 minutes of the match. They would hold the Cardinals to just four first-half shots, one of which being on-goal.

After Richardosn's goal, the Miners nearly got another one just seven minutes later when Mendoza fired a shot at the net. S&T would get another 11 shots off in the second half and held on for the 1-0 win.

S&T's offense exploded tonight, recording 25 team shots with eight being on-goal. Along with Richardson's goal, Kayla Foster (Sand Springs, Okla./Charles Page) fired off a match-best nine shots while Courtney Pyrtle (Foristell, Mo./Timberland) sent off six herself. Julia Crets (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell North), Damita Mendoza (San Antonio, TX/Smithson Valley), Paige Jackson (St. Louis, MO/Incarnate Word Academy), and Danielle Hopkins (Naperville, IL/Neuqua Valley) all recorded shots as well.

Kristin Steins (Ballwin, Mo./Parkway South) picked up her second straight win in goal tonight with five saves recorded in the 90 minutes.

Missouri S&T (3-4-1; 3-3 GLVC) will be back in action this weekend when they host the Hawks of Rockhurst University on Sunday afternoon.
