Miners Drop Overtime Heartbreaker to Rockhurst

ROLLA, MO- Looking to make it three wins in a row, the Miners faced a hard battle over the Hawks of Rockhurst University. Despite taking them to overtime, S&T dropped the match 1-0.

The Hawks offense tested the Miners goalkeeper, Kristin Steins (Ballwin, Mo./Parkway South), right off the bat with three consecutive shots on-goal in the first three minutes of the match.

While Rockhurst fired off five more shots in the opening half, S&T got three shots of their own off with one from Beth Roberts (Lake St. Louis, MO/Liberty) being on-goal.

The Miners fought until the end of the second half as RU held them to just one shot while facing 11 from the Hawks. Steins stayed perfect in the second half, recording eight saves in the second 45 minutes of the match and sending the game into overtime.

RU claimed the match win in the 98' when Greta Seal found Jillian Leetch in the box and got one past Steins for the 1-0 win.

Along with Robert's shot in the first half, Damita Mendoza (San Antonio, TX/Smithson Valley), Kayla Foster (Sand Springs, Okla./Charles Page), and Lauren Traugott (North Richland Hills, Texas/Birdville) all recorded shots. Kristin Steins (Ballwin, Mo./Parkway South) recorded a career high 14 saves in the match while bringing her season total to 38.

The Miners (3-5-1; 3-4 GLVC) will be back in action on Friday night when they travel to St. Charles, Mo. to take on Lindenwood University.
