ROLLA, MO- The Miner women's soccer team took another hard hit tonight as they fell 1-0 to the Prairie Stars of Illinois Springfield to open a four-game home-stand.
The long goal of the game came in the 43' when UIS's Maggie Juhlin snuck past S&T's back line to go one-on-one with Miner goalkeeper,
Kristin Steins (Ballwin, Mo./Parkway South). The goal would eventually be enough to take the game.
Despite the loss, the Miners had many opportunities to score;
Courtney Pyrtle (Foristell, Mo./Timberland) and
Paige Jackson (St. Louis, MO/Incarnate Word Academy) both fired off shots at the Prairie Stars goalie, Bailey Cross, in the first half.
Julia Crets (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell North) would record the only shot on goal for the Miners in the second half off a free-kick from 30 yards out. Her shot would be sent directly to UIS' Cross and saved.
Along with Pyrtle, Jackson, and Crets,
Cameryn Boucher (Chandler, Ariz./Basha),
Kate Sikora (Highland, Ill./Highland), and
Kayla Foster (Sand Springs, Okla./Charles Page) all recorded shots tonight.
Kristin Steins (Ballwin, Mo./Parkway South) got the start in goal tonight playing the entire 90 minutes and recording four saves.
The Miners (1-4-1; 1-3 GLVC) will be back in action on Sunday afternoon when they host the Flyers of Lewis University.
