Volleyball Heads to Bellarmine, Indianapolis To Open GLVC Play

ROLLA, MO- After being on the road for the last two weekends, the Miners will travel once more before coming back to Gibson Arena. S&T will begin GLVC play this weekend when they travel to Bellarmine on Friday and Indianapolis on Saturday.

The Miners have made history this season, going 10-2 in their first 12 matches and picking up the best start in program history.

S&T is coming off two wins in the second day of the Harding Invitational that saw the 3-1 win over Ouachita Baptist and a 3-2 win over Arkansas Monticello.

Multiple Miner players are statistically ranked in the top-5 in the GLVC; Kiernan O'Boyle (Kansas City, Mo./St. Teresa's Academy) is averaging 1.22 blocks/set to put her in 3rd while also ranking 5th in the conference with 44 total blocks.
Payton Gannaway (Lawrence, Kan./Lawrence Free State) and Emilee Schlader (Lewiston, Idaho/Lewiston) are tied for 4th place in the conference at 4.19 points/set. Gannaway also leads the team and is 5th in the league with 14 service aces while Gannaway and Schlader combine for 318 kills for the season and are 4th and 5th, respectively, in the conference for total kills.

Team wise, Missouri S&T leads the GLVC with 102.5 total blocks and 85 service aces.

About Bellarmine:
The Knights go into tomorrow's match 9-3 overall after going undefeated in their home tournament last weekend. Bellarmine took down Trevecca Nazarene, University of Charleston, Georgia College, and Cedarville while dropping just two sets the entire weekend.

In the last five match-ups between the teams, the Miners have gone 2-3 with last year's meeting ending in a five-set showdown.

After dropping the first set 25-13, the Miners came back to take two sets. But, BU would not go down easily as they held S&T to just 13 fourth-set points and taking the 15-10 win in the fifth set.

For the season, Bellarmine's Jayme Scott leads the team with 144 kills, 3.35 kills/set, and 12 service aces. Kristen O'Toole and Sam Rickert have split time on the court with 239 and 230 assists, respectively, while Karleigh Wilson has picked up a team best 167 digs.

About Indianapolis:
Indianapolis, who will host the Saints of Maryville University before taking on the Miners, come into the weekend 8-2 overall after dropping a 3-0 game to #14 Hillsdale College.

In the last five match-ups between the two teams, the Miners have gone 2-3 with last season's meeting going in favor of S&T.

The Miners took full advantage of the Greyhounds 21 errors and swept UIndy in three sets behind Emilee Schlader's (Lewiston, Idaho/Lewiston) 16 kills.

Currently, Katie Furlong leads the Greyhounds with 125 kills and 4.31 kills/set while Alyssa Spears has dished out 319 of the team's 349 assists through seven matches.
