SPRINGFIELD, MO- Looking to take the momentum from Friday's win into today, the Miners traveled down I-44 to take on the Panthers of Drury University. DU's offense was too much for S&T to handle as they went on to take the 2-1 win.
The Panthers struck first in the game, getting two goals in the opening 15 minutes of the game.
Kayla Day got the first goal of the game in the 5' when Chloe Cash found her in the box and sent it past S&T's goalkeeper,
Rylee Hanes (Ladera Ranch, Calif./San Juan Hills). Just eight minutes later, Natalie Beck found Kaley Rottinghaus who fired a shot off and got it past Hanes.
The Miner's lack of goals in the first half weren't from lack of trying; S&T sent off seven shots in the opening 45 minutes.
S&T got one of the goals back in the second half of play on a shot from
Julia Crets (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell North) that made its way past DU goalie, Kaitlyn Knetzke. The Miners would not be able to get another goal in before the end of game and Drury claimed the 2-1 win.
Of S&T's 13 shots in the match, Crets,
Jess Haller (Eureka, Mo./Eureka), and
Kayla Foster (Sand Springs, Okla./Charles Page) all sent off three shots a piece.
Rylee Hanes (Ladera Ranch, Calif./San Juan Hills) got the start in goal today and recorded four saves in the 90 minutes of play.
The Miners will be back in action next weekend when they host Illinois Springfield and Lewis on Friday and Sunday.
