ROLLA, MO- The Miner women's soccer team picked up their first GLVC win tonight with their 2-1 double-overtime win over the Bearcats of Southwest Baptist University.
SBU struck first in the match when Raquel Rodriguez found Raegan Edwards deep in the box in the 34'. Edwards was able to sneak the ball past S&T goalkeeper,
Rylee Hanes (Ladera Ranch, Calif./San Juan Hills), to make it a 1-0 game.
Kayla Foster (Sand Springs, Okla./Charles Page) tied the game up for the Miners in the second half;
Kate Sikora (Highland, Ill./Highland) skimmed the ball into the box off a corner-kick and was able to get it right in front of Foster. Foster's goal would, eventually, force the match into not one, but two overtimes.
The Miners would claim the 2-1 victory in the 108' of play when a throw-in from
Chayse Richardson (Collinsville, Ill./Collinsville) ricocheted off an SBU defender's head and into the net past Bearcats' goalkeeper, Ashlyn Gibbs.
S&T's offense exploded today as they recorded 17 shots, seven of them coming from Foster;
Paige Jackson (St. Louis, MO/Incarnate Word Academy) and
Jess Haller (Eureka, Mo./Eureka) tallied four and two shots, respectively, while Richardson,
Danielle Hopkins (Naperville, IL/Neuqua Valley),
Cameryn Boucher (Chandler, Ariz./Basha), and
Julia Crets (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell North) all fired off one shot each.
Rylee Hanes (Ladera Ranch, Calif./San Juan Hills) got the start, and win, in goal today. In the 107:56 minutes of play, she recorded four saves.
The Miners will be back in action on Sunday when they travel to Springfield, Mo. to face off against the Panthers of Drury University.
