Miners Early Lead Extinguished in 74-68 Loss

ROLLA, MO- Looking to keep their post-season hopes alive, the Miners came into tonight's game needing a win over William Jewell. While the opening minutes of the game looked promising, S&T was not able to hold on to their lead and fell to the Cardinals 74-68.

Missouri S&T took control in the opening quarter, keeping the Cardinals at bay and scoring on three of their final four possessions to take an early 17-12 lead.

The Miners shot lights out in the second quarter and saw their lead extend out to double-digits on a three-pointer from Marta Durk (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon Township) with 3:15 remaining in the half.

William Jewell was able to cut their deficit to seven heading into the break after Antoinette Mussorici got a lay-up to fall at the buzzer.

The Cardinals made their run for the Miners early in the third quarter; as quick as S&T gained their lead, WJC made is go away just three minutes into second half. The trio of Kiara Bradley, Antoinette Mussorici, and Kayla Harrell combined for nine points to tie the game at 38-38.

Missouri S&T got their lead back out to nine late in the third quarter after a lay-up from Laura Rodriguez (Gran Canaria, Spain/Baloncesto Torrelodones).  But a jumper from the elbow by WJC's Sydney Offield put them down 51-44 heading into the final 10 minutes.

The Cardinals opened the quarter with an 11-5 run to take their first lead of the game. S&T would get a slight lead with 2:34 left in the game after back-to-back baskets from Marta Durk (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon Township) and Ashley Harvey (Raytown, Mo./Raytown) put the Miners back in top with a 66-64 lead.
William Jewell would come back with eight made free-throws in the final minute of the game to take the 74-68 win.

Jordan Kabetske (Republic, Mo./Republic) led the way for the Miners with 11 points and seven assists while Mykala Baylor (South Bend, Ind./Clay) picked up her 8th double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Alex Kerr (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph's Academy) was the final Miner to score in double-digits with 10 points on 4-8 shooting.
