Miners Drop Final Road Game of Season

SAINT LOUIS, MO- Looking to break their three game losing skid, the Miners traveled up to Missouri-St. Louis to take on the Tritons in their final road game of the regular season. While the Miners kept it interesting with two comebacks in the game, UMSL was able to hold on for the 70-61 win.

The Tritons jumped out on the Miners taking a 10-0 lead in the first four and a half minutes of the first quarter.

S&T's first basket came almost five minutes into the quarter when Alex Kerr (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph's Academy) found Mykala Baylor (South Bend, Ind./Clay) cutting to the basket for an easy lay-up. Just 30 seconds later, Michaela Davis (Keokuk, Iowa/Keokuk) found Maddie Raley (Haubstadt, Ind./Gibson Southern) ahead of the bunch for a fast-break lay-up to cut the Miners deficit to 10-4.

Missouri S&T had trouble getting shots to fall for the remaining minutes of the quarter, going just 2-6 from the field to look at a 19-8 score heading into the second stanza.

Things started to look up for the Miners late in the second quarter when Maddie Raley (Haubstadt, Ind./Gibson Southern) got hot; she hit back-to-back baskets to get S&T within eight of the Tritons. On the very next possession, she found Alex Kerr (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph's Academy) cutting to the basket for a lay-up and a foul to complete the three-point play and make it a five point game.

UMSL would end the half with a three-point buzzer-beater from Kaitlynn Henning to push their lead out to 34-24.

S&T went at the Tritons to open the second half; consecutive lay-ups from Mykala Baylor (South Bend, Ind./Clay) and a quick basket from Raley put the Miners down 36-30. After an UMSL jumper, a 15-foot shot from Jordan Kabetske (Republic, Mo./Republic) off an inbounds play would put S&T back within six.

Missouri-St. Louis would push their lead back out to nine after a deep three-pointer on the wing from McKenzie Lathrom. The Tritons ended the quarter with a last second shot from Arielle Jackson to make it 46-35 heading into the final 10 minutes of the game.

It was all UMSL to open the fourth quarter. They saw their largest lead two minutes into the quarter when Arielle Jackson sank three free-throws to give them a 52-37 lead.

Jordan Kabetske (Republic, Mo./Republic) found her rhythm late in the quarter. She drained two deep three-pointers to get the Miners back within 10. Michaela Davis (Keokuk, Iowa/Keokuk) would add in two free-throws to cut the Tritons lead to 60-52.

Maddie Raley (Haubstadt, Ind./Gibson Southern) brought the Miners even closer with a lay-up and a free-throw to make it a 60-55 game with 2:13 left in the quarter.

UMSL and Missouri S&T traded baskets for the rest of the game with Missouri-St. Louis coming out with the 70-61 win.

Maddie Raley (Haubstadt, Ind./Gibson Southern) led the way for the Miners with 14 points on 6-11 shooting while Jordan Kabetske (Republic, Mo./Republic) and Mykala Baylor (South Bend, Ind./Clay) added in 12 and 11, respectively.
