S&T's Brooks selected as GLVC Scholar-Athlete of Year in football

ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T linebacker Bo Brooks (Canutillo, TX/Canutillo), who earned three All-America awards following the 2018 football season and was also a Google Cloud Academic All-America selection, has earned one additional award for his accomplishments as he has been named as the Scholar-Athlete of the Year in the sport by the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

Brooks was named second-team All-America by D2Football.com, D2CCA and as a member of Don Hansen's squad following a campaign in which he finished with 87 tackles – second on the team – with an S&T single-season record 22 of them for a loss and 11 quarterback sacks.  Brooks ranked seventh in NCAA Division II in tackles for a loss and was 20th in quarterback sacks as he became the second player in school history with at least 20 stops behind the line of scrimmage and 10 sacks in the same season.

A first-team all-conference selection by the GLVC, Brooks also finished the season with six pass breakups, three forced fumbles and a blocked kick and was a nominee for the Cliff Harris Award, which is given to the top small college defensive player in the nation.

Brooks, who was one of four Miners to earn All-America laurels on the field last season, was also selected to the Google Cloud Academic All-America team for the second consecutive season.  He is the second Miner in as many years to be named as the GLVC's Scholar-Athlete in football, following the selection of Deshawn Jones (Olympia Fields, IL/Rich Central) in 2017 and is one of four players in the history of the S&T program to earn All-America and Academic All-America honors in the same season, following Jones, Cole Drussa and Eivind Listerud.

Missouri S&T finished the 2018 season with a record of 10-2 – recording the third 10-win season in school history – and capped it with a victory over Minnesota State Moorhead in the Mineral Water Bowl in the program's first post-season appearance since 1950.
