ROLLA, MO- The Miners picked up their second straight win tonight with the 75-59 win over the Lady Lynx of Lindenwood-Belleville.
It was a bloodbath to start the first quarter, both teams struggling to make a bucket.
S&T would eventually pull away from the Lady Lynx midway through the quarter with baskets from
Ashley Harvey (Raytown, Mo./Raytown),
Jordan Kabetske (Republic, Mo./Republic), and
Alex Kerr (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph's Academy) to make it an 11-2 game.
Lindenwood-Belleville answered with a 7-0 run of their own to get back within three of the Miners.
Maddie Raley (Haubstadt, Ind./Gibson Southern) would push S&T lead out to five at the end of the quarter when she went 1-2 from the free-throw line.
After the Lady Lynx tied the game in the second quarter, the Miners regained their lead with consecutive buckets from
Laura Rodriguez (Gran Canaria, Spain/Baloncesto Torrelodones),
Ashley Harvey (Raytown, Mo./Raytown), and
Marta Durk (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon Township) to push their lead out to 32-22. Â LU-B's Ashley Mikan drained a three-pointer with 1:07 remaining in the half to put the Lady Lynx within seven of the Miners, but S&T got a late lay-up from
Mykala Baylor (South Bend, Ind./Clay) to give them the 34-25 lead heading into the break.
S&T opened up shop to start the third quarter; after back-to-back lay-ups from Baylor, the Miners found themselves up by 15 with 3:47 remaining in the third. Before the end of the quarter, S&T extended their lead to as much as 19.
While the Lady Lynx and Miners played dead-even in the fourth quarter, the lead S&T gained in the third quarter was enough to edge past Lindenwood-Belleville and come away with the 75-59 win.
Maddie Raley (Haubstadt, Ind./Gibson Southern) led all scorers with 19 points while
Mykala Baylor (South Bend, Ind./Clay) picked up her third double-double of the season with 18 points and 14 rebounds.
Alex Kerr (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph's Academy) was the only other Miner scorer to reach double figures with 11 points.
As a team, S&T shot 41% from the field and dished out 23 assists in the game.
The Miners will be back in action this Saturday when they play host to the Eagles of Avila University.
