ROLLA, MO- With the Miners win over Lindenwood University today, they secured themselves a spot in the GLVC Tournament for the first time since the 2015 season.
S&T shut down the Lions in the opening set, holding them to just seven kills while the Miners put down 15 kills with a .268 hitting percentage.
Missouri S&T found themselves with an 11-3 lead early in the set after a solo block from
Avery Reed (Ste. Genevieve, Mo./Ste. Genevieve). While Lindenwood made a small run of their own, the Miners didn't falter.
Kills from
Caroline Dykes (Lawrence, Kan./Lawrence) and
Payton Gannaway (Lawrence, Kan./Lawrence Free State), along with LWU errors put S&T back up 18-12 late in the set. The Miners would get some major help from their offense to close out the set; kills from
Payton Gannaway (Lawrence, Kan./Lawrence Free State),
Avery Reed (Ste. Genevieve, Mo./Ste. Genevieve), and
Caroline Dykes (Lawrence, Kan./Lawrence) gave S&T the 25-16 set one win.
Set two was much the same; S&T got up by as much as 21-9 in the set after a big block from
Caroline Dykes (Lawrence, Kan./Lawrence). Lindenwood would get their 5-0 run to get within seven of the Miners, but more errors from the Lions gave S&T the 25-15 set two win.
After Lindenwood came back and took set three, the Miners put the Lions to sleep in the fourth and final set.
Consecutive kills from
Emilee Schlader (Lewiston, Idaho/Lewiston),
Caroline Dykes (Lawrence, Kan./Lawrence) and
Payton Gannaway (Lawrence, Kan./Lawrence Free State) sealed the deal and gave S&T the 25-15 set four win and the 3-1 match win.
Along with their win, Truman State's win over Southern Indiana secured Missouri S&T a spot in the GLVC Tournament next weekend. Schedule is TBD.
Emilee Schlader (Lewiston, Idaho/Lewiston) ended her career in Gibson Arena with her 17
th double-double of the season with a match high 21 kills and 10 digs while
Payton Gannaway (Lawrence, Kan./Lawrence Free State) chipped in 18 kills.
Sarah McGinnis (Middleton, Wis./Edgewood) finished out her S&T career with 47 assists while
Corinne Stulce (St. Charles, Mo./Duchesne) led the way for the Miners with 12 digs.
