Reed Has Career Day in Miners Sweep of SBU

ROLLA, MO- S&T picked up a key win tonight, taking down the Bearcats of Southwest Baptist in straight sets (25-14, 25-11, 25-19).

The Miners opened up on a strong note, gaining a quick 10-3 lead in the first set after back-to-back kills from Emilee Schlader (Lewiston, Idaho/Lewiston).

SBU fought their way back into the set, making it a three point game. S&T didn't let them hang around long, getting a combined six kills from Schlader, Calla Meyer (Clackamas, Ore./Clackamas), Avery Reed (Ste. Genevieve, Mo./Ste. Genevieve), Payton Gannaway (Lawrence, Kan./Lawrence Free State), and Kiernan O'Boyle (Kansas City, Mo./St. Teresa's Academy). A Bearcat error would end the set and give the Miners the 25-14 win.

S&T opened up shop in the second set, going on a 12-2 run. That opening lead would be enough to secure their set two win and take a 2-0 lead in the match.

SBU came out hot in this third set. After taking a 7-2 lead and forcing the Miners to call timeout, S&T began their rally back.

Kiernan O'Boyle (Kansas City, Mo./St. Teresa's Academy) went on a six-serve streak early in the second set to give the Miners an 11-9 lead. S&T would hold that lead for the remainder of the set and get a kill from Payton Gannaway (Lawrence, Kan./Lawrence Free State) to end the set at 25-19 and give the Miners the 3-0 match win.

Emilee Schader led all players with 14 kills and picked up nine digs while Avery Reed (Ste. Genevieve, Mo./Ste. Genevieve) had herself a day with 13 kills on 19 attempts and added in four blocks. Kiernan O'Boyle (Kansas City, Mo./St. Teresa's Academy), who also recorded four blocks, was the final Miner to reach double digit kills in the match with 11.
