INDIANAPOLIS, IND- The Miners suffered a tough setback tonight, falling 1-0 to the Greyhounds of Indianapolis.
While the Miners fired out six shots from four different players, only two,
Jess Haller (Eureka, Mo./Eureka) and
Madeline Goeke (Florissant, Mo./Duchesne), would challenge UIndy's goalkeeper, Sophia Saucerman.
S&T's defense held steady in the first half, allowing five shots on-goal that Miners goalkeeper,
Kristin Steins (Ballwin, Mo./Parkway South), were able to save.
The Greyhounds caught their break in the 49' of play when Taylor Peck was able to strike a shot past Steins and make it a 1-0 game. UIndy continued to challenge Steins and the Miner defense as they would get three more shots off before the end of the match.
S&T would do everything they could to tie the match, firing off four shots in the final 13 minutes of regulation. The Greyhounds defense would prove too much for the Miners and give them the 1-0 loss.
Along with Haller and Goeke,
Danielle Hopkins (Naperville, IL/Neuqua Valley) and
Courtney Pyrtle (Foristell, Mo./Timberland) also recorded shots tonight.
Kristin Steins (Ballwin, Mo./Parkway South), who played the entire 90 minutes, recorded nine saves and brought her season total to 67.
