Miners End Weekend With Draw at Bellarmine

LOUISVILLE, KY.-S&T went after it today, challenging the Knights of Bellarmine University to a 0-0 draw to end the weekend.

While Bellarmine outshot the Miners 18-15, S&T's defense held steady while starting goalkeeper, Kristin Steins (Ballwin, Mo./Parkway South), went a perfect 9-9 on saved shots.

The Miners started things quickly, getting shots from Courtney Pyrtle (Foristell, Mo./Timberland) and Kayla Foster (Sand Springs, Okla./Charles Page) in the first 13 minutes of the match. Peyton Carter (Overland Park, KS/Blue Valley West) got in on the action in the opening 45 minutes when she sent a shot in the 34' that was saved by Knight's goalie, Elyssa Francis.

BU was able to get four shots off in the first half, two of which were saved by Steins and the other two blocked by the Miner defense.

Things heated up in the second half of play; S&T sending 10 shots to the Bellarmine goal.

Shots from Danielle Hopkins (Naperville, IL/Neuqua Valley), Beth Roberts (Lake St. Louis, MO/Liberty), and Kayla Foster (Sand Springs, Okla./Charles Page) challenged BU's Francis in the first 20 minutes of the second half while Steins saved three shots against the Knights.

With a 0-0 score at the end of regulation, the Miners and Knights would play to double-overtime with no score to come out with the draw.

Kayla Foster (Sand Springs, Okla./Charles Page) led all players today with six shots while Danielle Hopkins (Naperville, IL/Neuqua Valley) and Courtney Pyrtle (Foristell, Mo./Timberland) both sent off three each. Kristin Steins (Ballwin, Mo./Parkway South) recorded nine more saves today, bringing her season total to 76.
