ROLLA, MO- The Miners picked up a crucial win today, taking down the Hawks of Quincy University 1-0 to move to 5-6-2 overall and 5-5-1 in the GLVC.
After playing to a draw in the opening 45 minutes, S&T put themselves on the board after
Chayse Richardson (Collinsville, Ill./Collinsville), who did her famous flip-throw, threw the ball into the box and found a waiting
Madeline Goeke (Florissant, Mo./Duchesne) who headed the ball past QU goalkeeper, Emilee Autry.
S&T threatened to score again when
Kayla Foster (Sand Springs, Okla./Charles Page) got shots off in the 60' and 67' that were both saved by Autry.
Kristin Steins (Ballwin, Mo./Parkway South), who saw just four shots on-goal the entire match, fended off two in the second half to keep the Hawks scoreless and secure the 1-0 win.
Along with Goeke and Foster, the Miners offense exploded today, recording 14 shots and eight on-goal from
Julia Crets (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell North),
Courtney Pyrtle (Foristell, Mo./Timberland), and
Beth Roberts (Lake St. Louis, MO/Liberty).
The Miners will get back to action next weekend when they travel to Indianapolis on Friday night and Bellarmine on Sunday afternoon.
