ROLLA, MO- S&T pulled off the ultimate upset today, taking the 1-0 win in overtime over the Tritons of Missouri-St. Louis.
The Miners came out firing, sending three shots to UMSL's Amber Hayes in the first 20 minutes of play while holding the Tritons to no shots on-goal in the opening half.
Kayla Foster (Sand Springs, Okla./Charles Page) almost ended the game for S&T with four minutes left in regulation when she fired off a shot that Hayes just barely stopped.
Kristin Steins (Ballwin, Mo./Parkway South) went a perfect 5-5 in the second half with saves to keep it 0-0 and send the game into overtime.
Julia Crets (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell North) got the game-winning goal in the 99' when she caught the ricochet of a blocked shot and sent the ball into the upper left corner of the net to give the Miners the 1-0 win.
Along with Crets goal,
Kayla Foster (Sand Springs, Okla./Charles Page) and
Courtney Pyrtle (Foristell, Mo./Timberland) led the way with six and five shots, respectively, while
Paige Jackson (St. Louis, MO/Incarnate Word Academy) and
Lauren Traugott (North Richland Hills, Texas/Birdville) each recorded one shot each.
Kristin Steins (Ballwin, Mo./Parkway South) recorded six saves today, putting her season total at 47.
S&T (4-5-2; 4-4-1 GLVC) will end their home season next weekend when they host Truman State on Friday night and Quincy on Sunday afternoon.
