ROLLA, MO- The Miners added one more conference win to their record before heading out to Indianapolis for the GLVC Crossover. They took down the Bulldogs of Truman State today 3-1 (25-15, 25-15, 19-25, 25-19).
S&T jumped out on the Bulldogs to start the match, creating a 6-0 lead after back-to-back kills from
Payton Gannaway (Lawrence, Kan./Lawrence Free State) and
Abigail Widiker (Hammond, Wis./Saint Croix Central). While TSU would put down nine kills, S&T's early lead put well ahead of Truman State and gave them the easy 25-15 set one win.
It wouldn't be until midway through set two when the Miners pulled away from the Bulldogs; a 7-1 run that was topped off with a service ace from
Megan Eilerman (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) gave S&T an 18-12 lead. The Miners outscored TSU 7-3 the rest of the set and took the 25-15 win after
Calla Meyer (Clackamas, Ore./Clackamas) put down a kill.
After dropping the third set 25-19, S&T found themselves down 9-3 to open the fourth.
The Miners strung together four kills and three service aces to turn the tables and take the 11-10 lead. S&T would hold the Bulldogs to just a 0.089 hitting percentage in the match and capture the 25-19 win after TSU's Ainsley Heise served into the net.
Payton Gannaway (Lawrence, Kan./Lawrence Free State) led the way for the Miners with 13 kills while five S&T players hit double figures in digs; Corinne Stucle led with 17 while
Emilee Schlader (Lewiston, Idaho/Lewiston),
Abigail Widiker (Hammond, Wis./Saint Croix Central),
