Rolla, Mo. – A pair of Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) road matches in St. Louis, Mo., is on tap this weekend (Sept. 14-15) for the Missouri S&T women's volleyball team. The Miners square off against the Missouri-St. Louis Tritons this Friday (Sept. 14) in a 7 p.m. (CT) contest inside UMSL's Mark Twain Building before wrapping up the weekend's action Saturday (Sept. 15) versus the Maryville Saints. Opening serve is scheduled for 3 p.m. (CT) at MU's Moloney Arena.
2018 Record: S&T improved to 8-3 overall and 1-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) this season with a 3-1 home league triumph over William Jewell this last Saturday (Sept. 8) at Gibson Arena in Rolla. The Miners started out last week's action with a 3-0 non-conference win at Missouri Southern last Tuesday (Sept. 4) in Joplin, Mo., before falling 3-0 to nationally eighth-ranked Rockhurst in both their home and conference opener this past Friday (Sept. 7). S&T is 1-1 at home, 2-1 on the road, and 5-1 at neutral sites this season to date. The Miners' 8-3 record equals the program's best start since 2011 when S&T won eight of its initial eight contests en route to a 24-10 season and a GLVC West Division (15-3 GLVC) title.
S&T Head Coach –
Andy Halaz (Rockhurst, 2008), 1st season, 8-3 (.727). Halaz is presently in his first season at S&T and began his current duties on Jan. 28 after serving as the director of marketing and was the outdoor director for High Performance STL Volleyball Club in St. Louis, Mo., since 2014. He coached one of the High Performance STL Volleyball Club's top teams while organizing the outdoor training program. Halaz was the lead court trainer and summer camp coordinator at Georgetown from 2009-14 after spending two seasons (2008 and 2009) at Saint Louis where he was an assistant coach and the director of volleyball operations. During his time at SLU, the Billikens won at least a share of the Atlantic 10 Conference regular season championship and were NCAA Division I Tournament participants, including making a second-round appearance in 2008. Halaz also served as an assistant coach at Rockhurst for four seasons (2004-07) and helped the Hawks to four consecutive NCAA Division II Tourney appearances.

Missouri-St. Louis: UMSL is currently 9-4 overall and 2-0 in the GLVC this season following a 3-0 conference home decison over Southern Indiana last Saturday (Sept. 8) in St. Louis, Mo. The Tritons, under ninth-year head coach Ryan Young, are midst a three-match winning streak after dropping their previous four outings. UMSL, which is 2-0 at home, 0-2 on the road, and 4-2 at neutral sites this campaign, visits Lewis this Tuesday (Sept. 11) in Romeoville, Ill., prior to hosting Missouri S&T this Friday (Sept. 14) evening. The Tritons concluded the 2017 campaign at 22-7 overall and 12-6 in the GLVC.

Maryville: The Saints, who are directed by first-year head coach Gretchen Moser, have notched a 4-6 overall mark and are 0-2 in GLVC competition after dropping their second straight with a 3-0 conference home loss to Belarmine last Saturday (Sept. 8) in St. Louis, Mo. MU, which is 0-2 at home, 0-2 on the road, and 5-4 at neutral sites this campaign, visits Indianapolis this Tuesday (Sept. 11) in a league encounter and then hosts GLVC foe Drury this Friday (Sept. 14) before facing the Miners this Saturday (Sept. 15) afternoon.

All-Time Record: The 2018 campaign represents S&T's 12th season of intercollegiate women's volleyball competition since the program's inception in 2007. The Miners have accumulated a 161-206 record (.439) to date. S&T has produced three 20 or more victories in a season – 24-10 in 2011, 22-11 in 2015, and 20-13 in 2012.

Corinne Stulce (St. Charles, Mo./Duchesne) became the sixth S&T player to reach 1,000 career digs after recording a match-leading and career-high 30 digs versus William Jewell (9/8). Stulce, whose previous career match best was 27 digs versus Missouri Western (9/9/16), has currently accumulated a 1,027 career digs total in 63 outings and has posted double-digit digs in all 11 contests this season ... Emilee Schlader (Lewiston, Idaho/Lewiston) extended her current double-figure kills match to four consecutive after tallying a match-most 19 kills against William Jewell (9/8). Schlader, who has totaled eight matches with double-figure kills this campaign, is averaging 15.0 kills per match in her last four appearances ... Sophomore right-side hitter

2018 GLVC Volleyball Preseason Poll: S&T was picked 12th in the
2018 Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Coaches Preseason Poll as the Miners received 55 points. Lewis was chosen as the conference's preseason favorite with 180 points and 11 first-place votes. Rockhurst picked up the other three first-place votes to go with a second-most 171 points. Rounding out the top five were Illinois Springfield (149 pts.), McKendree (128 pts.), and Bellarmine (125 pts.). Truman State (121 pts.) placed sixth proceeded by Missouri-St. Louis (115 pts.), and Indianapolis (105 pts.). Drury (99 pts.) and Southern Indiana (72 pts.) garnered ninth and 10th place, respectively. Quincy (62 pts.) finished in 11th place while Missouri S&T was 12th. The final two placings in the 14-team league poll were occupied by William Jewell (48 pts.) and Maryville (26 pts.).
2018 S&T Roster: Missouri S&T's 2018 active roster consists of three seniors, four juniors and sophomores apiece, and five freshmen. Six of the 16 student-athletes play either the outside or right-side hitter position while four others are middle hitters, three setters, two defensive specialists, and one libero. Eight individuals hail from the state of Missouri and two from Kansas.
