Rolla, Mo. – The Missouri S&T women's volleyball team, which is off to a 3-1 season-opening start, will participate in the 11th annual Nova Southeastern Shark Invitational this weekend (Aug. 31-Sept. 1) in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The Miners, who are off to their best start since 2015, play Babson (Mass.) and host Nova Southeastern in first-day action before going up against Texas A&M International and Lynn (Fla.) in day-two competition at NSU's Rick Case Arena.
2018 Record: S&T is currently 3-1 overall and 0-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) to date. The Miners are 2-1 at neutral sites, 0-1 on the road, and 0-0 at home.
S&T Head Coach –
Andy Halaz (Rockhurst, 2008), 1st season, 3-1 (.750). Halaz is presently in his first season at S&T and began his current duties on Jan. 28 after serving as the director of marketing and was the outdoor director for High Performance STL Volleyball Club in St. Louis, Mo., since 2014. He coached one of the High Performance STL Volleyball Club's top teams while organizing the outdoor training program. Halaz was the lead court trainer and summer camp coordinator at Georgetown from 2009-14 after spending two seasons (2008 and 2009) at Saint Louis where he was an assistant coach and the director of volleyball operations. During his time at SLU, the Billikens won at least a share of the Atlantic 10 Conference regular season championship and were NCAA Division I Tournament participants, including making a second-round appearance in 2008. Halaz also served as an assistant coach at Rockhurst for four seasons (2004-07) and helped the Hawks to four consecutive NCAA Division II Tourney appearances.

Last season, BC compiled a 22-10 record overall and was 8-2 in the New England Women's Athletic Conference (NEWAC). The Beavers advanced to the NCAA Division III Regional Tournament Championship match for the first time in school history a season ago.

Nova Southeastern: NSU is presently 0-4 on the season after dropping all four of its Ashland (Ohio) Invitational contests this past weekend (Aug. 24-25). The Sharks, who are directed by fifth-year head coach Jennifer King, started their 2018 campaign with a pair of 3-0 setbacks to Shippensburg (Pa.) and Bellarmine (Ky.) last Friday (Aug. 24) at AU's Kates Gymnasium. NSU, which was 6-21 overall and 4-16 in the Sunshine State Conference last season, suffered a 3-1 loss to Malone (Ohio) before being dealt a 3-0 defeat by host Ashland in the tourney finale.

Texas A&M International: The Dustdevils sport a current 1-4 record this season and posted a 3-0 season-opening win over Franklin Pierce (FPU) last Thursday (Aug. 23) at the FPU Fieldhouse in Rindge, N.H. TAMIU, under fourth-year head coach Susie Jangada, dropped all four of its FPU Raven First Serve Invitational matches last weekend (Aug. 24-25). The Dustdevils fell to California (Pa.) and LIU Post by 3-1 scores before suffering a 3-0 loss to Wilimington (Ohio). TAMIU fell 3-1 to New Haven (Conn.) in its final 2018 FPU Raven Invite appearance. A season ago, the Dustdevils compiled a 2-24 overall ledger and were 0-12 in Heartland Conference (HC) play.

Lynn: LU is 3-1 to date this season following its season-opening performance last weekend (Aug. 24-25) at the Embry-Riddle Tournament in Daytona Beach, Fla. The Fighting Knights, coached by fourth-year head coach Adam Milewski, registered 3-1 victories over Valdosta (Ga.) State and Westminster (Utah) along with a 3-2 win versus Shaw (N.C.) at the Embry-Riddle Tournament. LU's lone tourney defeat occurred against Wayne (Neb.) State in a 3-0 setback. The Fighting Knights concluded the 2017 campaign at 9-17 overall and 7-13 in the Sunshine State Conference (SSC).

All-Time Record: The 2018 campaign represents S&T's 12th season of intercollegiate women's volleyball competition since the program's inception in 2007. The Miners have accumulated a 156-204 record (.433) to date. S&T has produced three 20 or more victories in a season – 24-10 in 2011, 22-11 in 2015, and 20-13 in 2012.

Corinne Stulce (St. Charles, Mo./Duchesne) were both named to the 2018 Lindenwood Invitational All-Tournament Team. Combs recorded a team-high 43 kills and averaged 3.91 per set in her three tourney appearances while Stulce garnered a squad-best 69 digs while averaging 4.93 a set in four outings...
Carlie Combs (O'Fallon, Mo./St. Dominic) moved into sixth place on the Miners' all-time kills leaders list and presently has amassed a 939 career total. She's 14 kills away from tying Hayley Wright (953, 2010-13) for fifth place...
Corinne Stulce (St. Charles, Mo./Duchesne) now ranks eighth among S&T's career leaders with 895 digs and needs 28 more to tie Jennifer Costello's (2009-12) seventh-place 923 career total…Junior outside hitter
Emilee Schlader's (Lewiston, Idaho/Lewiston) match-high 17 kills in S&T's 3-0 win over Chadron State last Saturday (8/25) at the Lindenwood Invitational equaled a personal career match best. Schlader tallied 17 kills versus Upper Iowa (9/9) in the 2017 Missouri S&T Middle of Everywhere Classic...The Miners are now 4-8 in season openers since 2007 after posting a 3-1 triumph over Urbana (Ohio) last Friday (8/24) in their 2018 season-opening match...Senior middle hitter
Carson Talley (St. Louis, Mo./Affton) is three block solos shy of tying Julie Meyer (27 block solos; 2008-12) for sixth place on the Miners' all-time block solos leaders list.
2018 GLVC Volleyball Preseason Poll: S&T was picked 12th in the
2018 Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Coaches Preseason Poll as the Miners received 55 points. Lewis was chosen as the conference's preseason favorite with 180 points and 11 first-place votes. Rockhurst picked up the other three first-place votes to go with a second-most 171 points. Rounding out the top five were Illinois Springfield (149 pts.), McKendree (128 pts.), and Bellarmine (125 pts.). Truman State (121 pts.) placed sixth proceeded by Missouri-St. Louis (115 pts.), and Indianapolis (105 pts.). Drury (99 pts.) and Southern Indiana (72 pts.) garnered ninth and 10th place, respectively. Quincy (62 pts.) finished in 11th place while Missouri S&T was 12th. The final two placings in the 14-team league poll were occupied by William Jewell (48 pts.) and Maryville (26 pts.).
2018 S&T Roster: Missouri S&T's 2018 active roster consists of three seniors, four juniors and sophomores apiece, and five freshmen. Six of the 16 student-athletes play either the outside or right-side hitter position while four others are middle hitters, three setters, two defensive specialists, and one libero. Eight individuals hail from the state of Missouri and two from Kansas.
