Box Score 2 ROSEMONT, Ill. – After splitting two games on the first day of play at the Lewis Dome Invitational, Missouri S&T's softball team fell twice on Saturday to two of the top teams in the events, losing 9-3 to Grand Valley State and 8-2 to 19
th-ranked Winona State.
The Lady Miners (7-6) got the early lead on Grand Valley, scoring in the opening inning on a leadoff triple by
Courtney Jackson (Parkville, Mo./Park Hill South) and a two-out single off the bat of
Gretchen Egly (Joliet, Ill./Plainfield Central). However, the Lakers answered with three runs in the bottom half of the first – aided by two S&T errors in the inning – then put three more on the board in the second off starter
Avery English (Carterville, Ill./Carterville).
Egly drove in her second run of the contest in the third, singling home
Carley Hamann (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln Way North) to draw the Lady Miners a run closer, but the Lakers got that run back in the third and tacked on single runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
S&T scored in the seventh when English reached on an error with one out and later scored on a hit by Hamann.
The Lakers outhit S&T 17-6 in the contest, with Jackson, Hamann and Egly all having two hits apiece for the Lady Miners.
In the Winona State contest, the Lady Miners scored twice in the bottom of the first when
Carley Hamann (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln Way North) drew a one-out walk and scored ahead of a two-run homer by
Olivia Young (Milstadt, Ill./Belleville Township). However, the Warriors responded with five runs in the top of the second off S&T starter
Courtney Jackson (Parkville, Mo./Park Hill South) and tacked on two more in the fourth and another in the sixth on Rylee Stout's solo home run.
The Lady Miners were outhit 10-5 in the game.
The Lady Miners will conclude their weekend in the Chicago area Sunday when they face 15
th-ranked Wayne State (Mich.) at 11 a.m.
