Rolla, Mo. – The Missouri S&T women's volleyball team will take a break from its Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) schedule this weekend (Oct. 12-13) as the Miners will compete in the 2018 Midwest Region Volleyball Crossover Tournament, which will be held at The Academy Volleyball Club in Indianapolis, Ind. S&T begins tourney play taking on the Great Midwest Athletic Conference's (G-MAC) sixth-seed Lake Erie Storm this Friday (Oct. 12) at 2:30 p.m. (ET). The Miners resume competition on Saturday (Oct. 13) versus the G-MAC's 10th-seed Ursuline Arrows in a 10 a.m. (ET) match before concluding action at 4 p.m. (ET) against the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's (GLIAC) ninth-seed Northern Michigan Wildcats.

2018 Record: S&T improved to 12-8 overall and 5-6 in the GLVC to date this season with a pair of home conference victories this past weekend (Oct. 5-6) at S&T's Gibson Arena in Rolla, Mo. The Miners, who are currently 4-2 at home, 3-5 on the road, and 5-1 at neutral sites this fall, posted a 3-1 win against Maryville last Friday (Oct. 5) and then recorded a 3-0 triumph over Missouri-St. Louis this past Saturday (Oct. 6) after suffering a 3-0 league loss at nationally-ranked Drury this past Tuesday (Oct. 2) at DU's O'Reilly Family Event Center in Springfield, Mo. S&T's 12 victories this season represents the program's highest win total since 2015 when the Miners compiled a 22-11 overall record.
S&T Head Coach –
Andy Halaz (Rockhurst, 2008), 1st season, 12-8 (.600). Halaz is presently in his first season at S&T and began his current duties on Jan. 28 after serving as the director of marketing and was the outdoor director for High Performance STL Volleyball Club in St. Louis, Mo., since 2014. He coached one of the High Performance STL Volleyball Club's top teams while organizing the outdoor training program. Halaz was the lead court trainer and summer camp coordinator at Georgetown from 2009-14 after spending two seasons (2008 and 2009) at Saint Louis where he was an assistant coach and the director of volleyball operations. During his time at SLU, the Billikens won at least a share of the Atlantic 10 Conference regular season championship and were NCAA Division I Tournament participants, including making a second-round appearance in 2008. Halaz also served as an assistant coach at Rockhurst for four seasons (2004-07) and helped the Hawks to four consecutive NCAA Division II Tourney appearances.

Lake Erie: The Storm have compiled a 13-7 overall mark, which includes a 7-5 ledger in the G-MAC this fall. LEC, which is directed by first-year head coach Kyle Peck, has won three of its last five outings to date with the most recent being a 3-0 home non-conference decision over Salem International on Tuesday (Oct. 9) at LEC's Osborne Athletic Center in Painesville, Ohio. The Storm, which is 2-2 at neutral sites, 2-3 at home, and 9-2 on the road this season, hosts Notre Dame (Ohio) Tuesday (Oct. 9) evening in a non-league tilt.

*Ursuline: The Arrows have registered an 8-9 overall record and are 4-7 in the G-MAC to date this season. UC, which is coached by fourth-year head coach Jayme Plummer, dropped its second consecutive match as a result of a 3-0 conference home loss to Tiffin this past Sunday (Oct. 7) at UC's Seidman Gymnasium in Pepper Pike, Ohio. The Arrows are 2-2 at neutral sites, 3-5 at home, and 3-2 on the road this campaign.

*Northern Michigan: The Wildcats are presently 11-8 overall and 3-8 in the GLIAC this season following a 3-0 league road win over Purdue Northwest this past Saturday (Oct. 6) at PNU's Dworkin Complex in Westville, Ind., which snapped a five-match losing skid. NMU, under second-year head coach Mike Lozier, is 2-0 at neutral sites, 6-4 at home, and 3-4 on the road this season.

S&T's Midwest Region Crossover History: The Miners have registered a 12-18 record (.400) record in Midwest Region Crossover matches since the tournament's inception in 2008. The Miners have accumulated a 165-211 record (.439) to date. S&T has produced three 20 or more victories in a season – 24-10 in 2011, 22-11 in 2015, and 20-13 in 2012.

Carlie Combs (O'Fallon, Mo./St. Dominic)' team-leading 22 service aces in 18 matches this season isn't only a personal career single-season best, but is more than her combined 20 aces served up in her initial three seasons (2015-17) as a Miner encompassing 85 appearances.
2018 GLVC Volleyball Preseason Poll: S&T was picked 12th in the
2018 Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Coaches Preseason Poll as the Miners received 55 points. Lewis was chosen as the conference's preseason favorite with 180 points and 11 first-place votes. Rockhurst picked up the other three first-place votes to go with a second-most 171 points. Rounding out the top five were Illinois Springfield (149 pts.), McKendree (128 pts.), and Bellarmine (125 pts.). Truman State (121 pts.) placed sixth proceeded by Missouri-St. Louis (115 pts.), and Indianapolis (105 pts.). Drury (99 pts.) and Southern Indiana (72 pts.) garnered ninth and 10th place, respectively. Quincy (62 pts.) finished in 11th place while Missouri S&T was 12th. The final two placings in the 14-team league poll were occupied by William Jewell (48 pts.) and Maryville (26 pts.).
2018 S&T Roster: Missouri S&T's 2018 active roster consists of three seniors, four juniors and sophomores apiece, and five freshmen. Six of the 16 student-athletes play either the outside or right-side hitter position while four others are middle hitters, three setters, two defensive specialists, and one libero. Eight individuals hail from the state of Missouri and two from Kansas. Serving as S&T's captains for the 2018 season are
