Women's Soccer Blanked by Missouri-St. Louis, 3-0

Rolla, Mo. – The offensive struggles for the Missouri S&T women's soccer continue as the Miners were shutout 3-0 by Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL) this Friday night (Oct. 5) in a Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) match as the Tritons scored all three of their goals in the opening half at the S&T Soccer Field.

S&T has been hampered by a lack of success in putting the ball into the opposition's net recently as the Miners have netted a combined two goals in their last eight appearances to date this season.

UMSL, which improved its overall record to 3-7-0 and 2-5-0 in the GLVC, quickly gained the upper hand from the start as the Tritons scored a goal at 3:49 into the contest as Emily Hanewinkel tallied her first of the year on a shot from the top of the box.  In the 16th minute, Mia Milazzo gave the Tritons a two-goal advantage as she took a lead pass from Maya Ware and fired a shot from 15 yards out into the S&T net to score her first goal of this season.

The third and final goal of the match would occur at 34:26 of the first half as Taylor Andert connected for her first marker of the year on an assist from Bre Colombo.

The Miners, who were outshot 23-5 in the league match, did match UMSL in corner kicks as each team garnered two apiece.

Sophomore goalkeeper Kristin Steins (Ballwin, Mo./Parkway South) started for S&T and played the first 45 minutes between the posts before giving way to fellow sophomore Rylee Hanes (Ladera Ranch, Calif./San Juan Hills), who was in goal for the second 45 minutes and matched Steins in saves with five stops.

S&T's five shots came from five different individuals in sophomore defender Cameryn Boucher (Chandler, Ariz./Basha), junior forward Kayla Foster (Sand Springs, Okla./Charles Page), senior midfielder Mikaela Mockenhaupt (Oswego, Ill./Oswego), junior defender-midfielder Julia Crets (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell North), and junior defender-midfielder Kate Sikora (Highland, Ill./Highland).  Boucher accounted for the Miners' lone shot on goal against UMSL goalkeeper Natalie Otten, who played the entire match en route to earning the win.

Missouri S&T, which falls to 2-7-1 and 1-5-1 in the GLVC, returns to the pitch this Sunday (Oct. 7) afternoon as the Miners go up against the Truman State Bulldogs in Kirksville, Mo.  The GLVC match is scheduled to get underway at 12 p.m. (CT).
