Kirksville, Mo. – Missouri S&T's
Kayla Foster (Sand Springs, Okla./Charles Page) picked an opportune time to net her first goal of this season as the junior forward accounted for this Sunday's (Oct. 7) only score in sparking the Miners to a 1-0 Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) victory over Truman State at TSU's Bulldog Soccer Park.
The match was scoreless for the first 44 minutes of the opening half until Foster connected at the 44:08 mark on a shot from the middle 30 yards out which would result in the only tally by either team in the match.
With the win, Missouri S&T is now 3-7-1 overall and 2-5-1 in GLVC play this fall while Truman State falls to 5-3-0 in the league to go with a 9-3-0 overall ledger.
The Miners proved to only need one score thanks to a noteworthy performance by S&T's defenders and a solid effort between the posts by sophomore goalkeeper
Kristin Steins (Ballwin, Mo./Parkway South), who earned the victory (3-2 record) as she stopped all five Truman State shots on goal in playing the entire 90 minutes. For the Bulldogs, goalkeeper Beth Hopwood absorbed the loss with allowing the only goal and garnered four saves in a complete-match performance.
Missouri S&T totaled 10 shots, which included five on goal, while the Bulldogs registered 12 total shots of which five occurred on net. The Miners would hold a three-to-two edge in corner kicks attempts.
The Miners had three individuals with two or more shot attempts in the contest, which included a match-best tying three from senior midfielder
Mikaela Mockenhaupt (Oswego, Ill./Oswego).
Kayla Foster (Sand Springs, Okla./Charles Page) and senior defender
Carli Tastad (Millstadt, Ill./Belleville West) each generated two shots while sophomore defenders
Cameryn Boucher (Chandler, Ariz./Basha) and
Katie Fuller (Frisco, Texas/Wakeland) along with senior midfielder
Lauren Tolan (Columbia, Ill./Columbia) notched one apiece. All five S&T players with the exception of Tastad put at least one shot on the TSU goal.
Next up for S&T is its final regular-season home matches of the 2018 season, which will be held next weekend, Oct. 12 and 14, at the S&T Soccer Field in Rolla, Mo. The Miners take on the McKendree Bearcats Friday (Oct. 12) in a 5 p.m. (CT) GLVC tilt before going up against the Illinois Springfield Prairie Stars Sunday (Oct. 14) at 12 p.m. (CT). Prior to the regular-season home finale, S&T will recognize its 2018 women's soccer senior student-athletes in a special pre-match ceremony.
