Women's Soccer Drops 2-1 Decision at Indianapolis

Indianapolis, Ind. - Missouri S&T's Carli Tastad (Millstadt, Ill./Belleville West) scored in the 51st minute, but Indianapolis tallied twice with a goal apiece in both halves for the difference as the Miners dropped a 2-1 decision this Sunday (Oct. 21) afternoon in Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) women's soccer action.

The Miners allowed an early UIndy opening-half goal to face a 1-0 deficit.  The Greyhounds' Amanda Meyer notched her first of the season at 2:29 into the match to quickly end the scoreless contest as UIndy would go on to take a one-goal lead at the end of the first half.  UIndy, which registered a 12-7 advantage in shots for the match, spent most of its time on the offensive end as the Greyhounds outshot the Miners 8-2 in the opening half.

Missouri S&T would net the equalizer in the second half as Carli Tastad (Millstadt, Ill./Belleville West) posted the Miners' lone goal at the 50:14 mark with junior defender Chayse Richardson (Collinsville, Ill./Collinsville) receiving an assist for her third point of this season.  For Tastad, the goal represented her second of this fall as the senior defender picked up her team second-best tying fourth point of the 2018 campaign.

UIndy, which despite being outshot 5-4 in the second half, managed to snap the 1-1 tie a little over 14 minutes later in what would be the eventual game winner as Sierra Singer scored her initial goal of this season in the 65th minute.  The Miners weren't able to get many scoring opportunities the remainder of the match with senior midfielder Mikaela Mockenhaupt (Oswego, Ill./Oswego) having her shot on goal in the 74th minute saved by UIndy goalkeeper Caitlynn Mackenzie, who made four saves, and a Mockenhaupt header shot at 78:37 was blocked by a Greyhound defender.

Missouri S&T, which falls to  4-10-1 and 3-8-1 in the GLVC for the season, finished the contest with four shots on goal to UIndy's five total.  Both team accumulated four corner kicks each with the Miners producing a 3-0 advantage in the second half after the Greyhounds held a 3-1 margin in the first 45 minutes of competition.

Senior goalkeeper Liz Carrano started for S&T and went the distance as she garnered five saves against Indianapolis, which presently stands at 8-7-2 overall and 5-6-1 in the GLVC as a result of the win.  Mikaela Mockenhaupt (Oswego, Ill./Oswego) led the Miners with four shots, which included two on goal, while junior defender-forward Clara Scotte and junior forward Kayla Foster (Sand Springs, Okla./Charles Page) had one apiece.

The Miners will make their final appearance of the 2018 season this Wednesday, Oct. 24, versus the Maryville Saints in St. Louis, Mo.  The GLVC contest will get underway from Maryville Field at 2:30 p.m. (CT).
