Women's Soccer Ends Season With 3-0 Loss at Maryville

St. Louis, Mo.. - The Missouri S&T women's soccer was unable to get on the scoreboard in its season finale as the Miners were handed a 3-0 loss by Maryville this Wednesday (Oct. 24) afternoon in the final Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) regular-season matchup at Maryville Field.

Missouri S&T finishes the 2018 season with a 4-11-1 overall record and posts a 3-9-1 mark in the conference.

Maryville, which improves to 9-4-3 overall and 8-4-1 in the GLVC with the victory, has qualified for the GLVC Tournament by virtue of finishing among the top eight in the final league standings.

The host Saints led 1-0 after the opening half as Amanda Kaltwasser scored her first of two goals on the day in the 15th minute.  Kaltwasser connected on a cross from five-yards out on the right of the Miner goal for the match's initial score.  Maryville registered a 9-1 shots advantage in the first 45 minutes of play and would go on to conclude the match with an 11-2 lead in shots.

In the second half, Maryville increased its lead to two goals as Kaltwasser tallied from three-yards out on the right side of the S&T net at the 58:24 mark for her sixth of the season.  The Saints would pick up their third and final score about seven minutes later as Caite Huesgen netted her third of the year with a shot off a cross pass from 15-yards out on the right wing which eluded S&T sophomore goalkeeper Kristin Steins (Ballwin, Mo./Parkway South), who came in relief of senior starter Liz Carrano (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township).   Steins played the entire second half and didn't register a save while Carrano finished with a six-saves performances all coming  in the first half. 

For the match, Maryville registered six shots on goal to S&T's one while the Saints also held the advantage in corner kicks by an 8-2 margin. 

Senior midfielder Mikaela Mockenhaupt (Oswego, Ill./Oswego) accounted for both of the Miners' two shots in the match.
